Car number plates...

    Why do we have Yellow number plates and the back of a car and white at the front ?

    i'm just interested in why we do this.

    White shows up best, so white is used at the front.
    No british car is legally allowed to have any white light on or reflector showing at the rear unless it is travelling backwards. Thus, a white numberplate cannot be shown at the rear of the car and yellow is the next best to white.
