Hi, Just looking at buying a Audi a4 tdi s-line new shape anyone got one and are they worth buying. At the moment I have a seat Leon 2.0 tdi but need something bigger (we hoping to expand the family) Cheers
Kev, Totally left field, but I've owned a number of performance cars but I bought a new toyota verso 2.2 turbo diesel 7 years ago when my grandson was born, I call it my grandpa wagon, after the 2.3 bmw its the best car I've had. I blow away boy racers from the lights, sad for 63 year old I know, I've had 65mpg on a steady run, and the space inside is good, the driving position is the best I've experienced, if you are buying new the new verso's are a bit bigger than mine, this is the longest I've kept a car by a long way and to be honest I keep looking at other cars but I can't see anything else that makes me want to change.
I've had my A6 ten years now They're built to last so that's a plus. Audis are nice cars but they are way over-priced for what you get*. But I guess you already knew that. A premium badge in the VW empire. But compare a similarly specced (and well built) Skoda for example. Shocking difference in cost. Bang for buck and your Leon will win hands down. They were good cars those. Is the badge really worth the premium? Personally, I'd say not. Law of diminishing returns and all that but I wouldn't entertain them again. All that said, if you decide to stump up the money you will have a nice car that'll still be nice when your new kid's in secondary school. Have fun choosing. *Unless like me you buy a nearly new big engined petrol that's already lost the majority of it's value in depreciation - no chuffer wants them due to fuel costs. Only good if you do low mileage though... or are moving to Australia.
For about the same price you can get a BMW 320d which is the best car in the class, 5 star review in WhatCar, better engine etc.
My last car was the new shape A4 TDI S-Line. Get the Exec pack & better alloys with low profiles. Decent car - handles well, w4nk in the snow - so get some winter tyres. My advice would be to not extend the family. Kids are a pain in the tits. Both of mine are for sale.
If you're not buying new, take a look at the Seat Exeo It's the old A4 subframe with the suspension tweaked and the current engine range lumped in. Uninspiring body shell - a4 a bit prettier. Overpriced but not so much so as the A4 and residuals are shocking so 2nd hand can get a bargain. Like the A4 no room in the back, no rear wiper on the saloon and a bit hairy in the snow but if you like the A4 you'll probs be happy with an upper spec Exeo (170PS 2.2 TDI Sport) On the subject of costly things with little residual value, I'd echo the previous advice about sprogging.
I'm still trying to work out why we had a 2nd one - I'm sure the Missus gave me rohypnol in my corn flakes for 6 months. They're now 6 & 2 ... and they just won't go away. They're on a longer contract than even Mike Sheron.
Echo that about BMW - got touring 320 msport 2.0diesel. Tidy, and handled snowy/slushy roads well this morning.
