BARNSLEY Football Club can today confirm that defender Matt Carbon will leave Oakwell when his contract expires at the end of June 2006.

Matt joined the Reds in the summer of 2004 after leaving Walsall and made his Barnsley debut on the opening day of the 2004/2005 campaign at MK Dons.

The 30-year-old has struggled a little with injuries during his time at Oakwell and has made 56 first team appearances, netting one goal.

Matt will leave the Club when his current contract expires on June 30, 2006.

:pff struggled a little? he has been a joke

So I think we will definitley be signing a centre half. We don't need more bodies, just need to replace players (Jacob Burns included)

Good player but most injury prone ever (ba Kevin Dixon)

A great defender when fit, but for every game he played, he'd miss probably the next 2. We'll need consistency next season, a regukar back four and unfortunately you couldn't expect that from Carbon. Still, all the best to him and hope he has more luck with a new club.

Agreed. Replacing Conlon, Carbon and Burns with some decent experienced players to play along side our boys would be a good place to start and shouldn't dent our wage bill too much.

    Cheers for everything.

Will always remember the hammering he gave Windass a few months ago in Cup at Oakwell - one of his best games!

Always thought he was solid at the back. I wish him well - but I think he'll struggle to get another club with his injury.

All the best to him though.(hatsoff)

I'd also like to see us replace...

    Vaughan, Kell, Wroe and Williams.
