I hope this helps, I have lived and worked here 9 years now so here is a bit of stuff to hopefully help you all.Firstly I do recommend making a week-End of it if you can, the place is really beautiful.Loads to do and see, and not just pubs. The newly-ish developed bay area is awesome, loads of historical things to see and terrific scenery. The stadium is amazing, make's Wembley look like Millmoor.Parking in the city is a bit limited but plenty of pay and ride places out of town are about and trains etc from nearby towns is good. The most direct route down is M1,A/M42,M50,A40 (through Ross-on-Wye & Monmouth), M4 and then the signs will tell each set of fans which junctions they must use.BE WARNED NOW the A40 between Ross-on-Wye/Monmouth and M4 Newport is often heavy on Mobile SPEED CAMERAs and on occasion such as this will be out in force, trust me...you have been warned. The other thing is that same stretch of road is snided with road works so travel could be restricted add a good extra 45 mins to your estimated travel time. The alternative is to carry on the M5 to the severn bridge, this is half hour on your estimated time but unrestricted of road works and less cameras, but theres a toll of £3 -£4. I get up to my mams in Hoyland on a decent day from here in three and a half hours, you will be longer coming down, especially on the saturday. As I said lots of good stuff down here plenty of nightclubs and bars, plenty of attractions for families etc....Dr Who was filmed here for the fans of that a big exhibit at Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff Castle is a fabulous place too.all the good stuff easily within 20 - 30 mins walk of the stadium.Well I have banged on enough now,If you have any queries I might be able to answer please ask on here and I will do my best.Hope this helps some of ya's and hope to see some of ya's on the day...enjoy it guy's n gals and lets hope the result is right too. YOOOOOOOOOOO REDDDDDDDDDDZZZZZZZZZZZ...................'Ave It
Hiya
Right I'm coming down on the morning and I think I'm going to go to Newport and catch the train so I don't get stuck in the car park after the match.
Question.
Do you know what the parking is like in Newport please.
Much obliged
Dave

Just one point of clarification - you forgot to put the M5 in your route. So it's M1, A42, M42, M5, M50, A40. I must admit I don't know the A40, but thought it would be just as quick to stay on the A449 as soon as you come off the M50. The A449 has loads of camera signs, but I've never seen a mobile unit on there. For those who want to stay on th M5 / M4, the toll on the M4 at the Severn crossing is £4.90 for cars, more for minibuses etc.
Who is going down in the car, and just for the day?? Not sure which route to take... What is everyone else doing??? Down through wales or across the severn bridge?
Last time I was down (my office is based in Swansea, right next to the Liberty Stadium), I had to take the M5 / M4 becaus the M50 was closed for overnight roadworks. However, I normally take the M50 (join off the M5 at Strensham services), then the A449 down to the M4. The M50 is the quietest motorway I know and th A449 is similarly lacking in traffic most of the time. However, it comes out at the M4 on a huge roundabout that can stack up quite badly at peak periods. There have been major roadworks affecting the M5 / M4 intersection for months, but the last time I was down was in March - not sure whether they are still there.
Whats best place to go for a beer on the friday and saturday nights? There will be a big group of us, mostly with our other halves. Somewhere with decent pubs and nightclubs, but avoiding most of the local numpties looking for trouble. cheers.
RE: they've had me twice mucker note to self. Be careful on A449, and don't assume there are no cameras. Cheers mate.
Can testify that they are there! Seen'em (once) but you often see the temporary sign ("A" board type) that I presume they are legally obliged to put up when operating in the area. Can testify to all that's been said, basically, Cardiff is a cracking city to visit. Get down at least half a dozen times a year, thanks to the Welsh wife, (at least twice for the Six Nations) and a good few "socialising" weekends too. In response to the other thread, I'm afraid Cardiff's a proper Lagerthon. Can't think of any quiet parts of the City Centre.
Theres a carpark a couple of minutes walk from the station that's free at weekends I'm told. £3.90 return on the train
