Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was remaining coy on talk linking the club with a move for Belgian international Emile Mpenza.
Reports emanating from Belgium claimed Cardiff were leading the chase for the 28-year-old striker.
Mpenza is looking for a new club after being told he is free to leave Middle East outfit Al Rayyan.
Blackburn, Sheffield United, Portsmouth and Racing Santander have all been linked with Mpenza, but Ridsdale has played down talk that Cardiff have tabled a bid for the speedy forward.
"There are a number of players being offered to English clubs at the moment, but we have not put in a bid," said Ridsdale. "Of course we're still looking at options.
"At the beginning we said we wanted to bring in at least two or three new faces and having signed Peter Whittingham this week (from Aston Villa), that is still the case.
"We've a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, so we're not going to take the first opportunity that comes along, it has to be right for us.
"Furthermore we're not going to pay over the odds for a player."
