Does anyone recall that League Cup tie when referee Kevin McNally added about 10 minutes' injury time on and he ended up requiring a police escort from the pitch? There were cushions flying from all directions in the main stand.
Yes - most exciting game ever at Oakwell Round about 1980. We were 2-0 up then ref started playing extra time during which Cardiff scored two very dodgy goals. There was a near riot and cushions were thrown from the directors box!. A copper had to go on to the pitch to have a word with the ref. Ian Banks scored probably the best goal I've ever seen ( a volley from inside the centre circle into top right hand corner at Ponty End) after 10 mins of injury time. Ref blew up shortly after that. 3-2 - fantastic. Remember going down to West Ham that year for the quarter-final where we were robbed 2-1. I got attacked by a police horse after the game!!
yep you bought them at the bottom of the stairs as you went up to your seat in the west stand upper.</p> made tremendous missiles when things hadn't gone your way during the game.</p> </p>
RE: Yes - most exciting game ever at Oakwell Didn't the cushions have 'BFC' written on them too? That ref had a controversial game the following weekend at the Manchester derby. West Ham away was well moody. We got attacked when we got back to our coaches and me and a mate ended up under a bus as a few of them began throwing bricks under at us. I'd already been bashed up when i'd paid into the wrong end and ended up slap bang in the middle of their loons! Evans scored for Barnsley and they were nudging me, spitting etc, and giving it "Go on then, cheer yer facking team". When they scored later on i got a kicking. Chirpy Cockneys eh?
Charlton..... It's a very friendly atmosphere at Charlton methinks..... the main pub for away supporters is the Antigillican
I was there and BR your memory is fading Bangers goal wasnt from that far out - probably only about 35 yards (NOOO) In off the bar - certainly one of the most memorable goals I have ever seen acute anxiety to utter dispair to unbounded joy all in the space of 2 minutes. Think Cardiff were in Div 2 at the time and we were in Div 3 so a giant killing too
RE: Charlton..... Just incase I go, what's the surrounding area like for food? Footie food is expensive and average and i'd prefer something from say a chippy.
RE: I was there and BR your memory is fading Not much in terms of food - i think there's a chippy up the hill, on the right?
RE: I was there and BR your memory is fading One thing bad about away matches is the choice of cheap and tasty food (N) A safe pub as well helps.
The half-way line was definetly how I remember it !! ... .. from the West stand lower terrace, unbelievable scenes when it went in.
Bloody hell, i had forgotten about it... but now it has been mentioned it's all coming back, them were the days, we had some good games in the old league cup in the early 80's
