Cardiff look to be developing an excellent squad, capable of challenging promotion.

I am still fairly confident of getting at least a point on Saturday as it is quite possible that this new bunch of players will need a few matches to gel as a team.

If we can remain disciplined and watch out for individuals in their squad putting up superb displays, I will go for 1-0 to the reds...

I really can't see them playing as well as Barnsley as a unit..

If we get beaten big time......I'm seriously concerned about the reaction of the fans to GS

Looking at the form book and comparing players........if Cardiff don't beat Barnsley by more than 2 goals then they can consider it a poor game for them
Hope to God it dunt happen
But we have some difficult matches in the first few weeks
If we lose heavily
Get ready for a massive backlash against the Chairman
We are looking in from the outside - is AR telling the Chairman we will be all reight
Thing is - if the team were losing week in week out then ARs head would be on the block
But thats not the case - because the fans can see that the team HAS NOT been strengthened from last season, so the spot light in circumstances like these always falls on the Chairman
So if things do go wrong......it will be GS not AR the fans go for

But looking at the messages on here and talking to fans in the street I can see it happening

you sell a player because with the money you recieve, you can buy a replacement (new GK) and also buy some more players (e.g. a striker). We havent done either. No replacement, no other players (Mcindoe didnt cost £1 million)

I've seen enough in the games against............

Boro and Wigan to see that we will at least give Cardiff a game,i'm sure anyone that saw these games will agree, not sure where your negativity comes from Nudger but I seem to remember you moaning all last season for what good it did.

The prem season some of the lads that got us up got bommed out lidds wilko thomo hendry to an extent, they were'nt given a chance at that leval not good enough some said, look where that got us at least the lads who did it this time round are going to get the chance to prove themselfs.

I predicted a backlash against "fall guy" Shepherd...

a few weeks ago, if things don't go well.

Then someone will be able to ride in on their white charger again.

accounts for club 31st May 2005 club insolvent, negative reserves of 4m and a loss of 1m. Accounts were only prepared on a going concern basis because the position was guarenteed by a third party, PC i assume. If we broke even in 2006 then we are still 4m in debt. We were in admin 2 years since it's a long way back and Flinders money is part of the recovery. GS is right to work within the budget as any other action would be folly. Cardiff spending like fook 30m in debt (consolidated results) dependent on a stadium project I have serious concerns over their strategy.

If thats the case

likely 600k play off money - not in the business plan
650k additional TV money this season - not in the business plan
600k up front for flinders - maybe not in the business plan
1.5m of additonal gate reciepts - not in business plan

I do not doubt that things are not massively rosy in the finance dept yet PC is hardly likely to pull the plug.

Relegation is not an option.

I think that the break even included the play off money.

I agree about the rest but whilst PC will not pull the plug unless he invests more of his own money there is no source of finance.

Also PC and the council are due a final loan repayment of 1.5m in total from the company that owns the ground or there will be interest charged.

Before people start slagging PC or the council they have also invested 2m each in share capital which is not normally repayable and therefore is dead money to them.

I spoke with Gordon Shepherd recently and

He told me that no matter what, there was no way that this Club was going to go back in Admin.
I spoke with him on school related issues and there is no doubt how passionate he is about the Club and the progress he envisages we shall make.
He shares our joy in the promotion and really does think like we all do, but, in the end, the buck stops with him and he is responsible for balancing the books which is, apparently, what he excels at.
My moan is this, I do think that the PR coming out of the Club could be handled so much better.
That is my gripe but it does appear that the PR from the Club has been the same for Centuries.
It needs a brighty, sparky , person who can "connect" with the fans because at the moment the PR is appalling and only succeeds in winding up the fans who, as Nudger says, are only wanting and waiting for news about BFC.

"The form book" if Cardiff beat us:

Played 1
Won 0
Drawn 0
Lost 1

That's relegation form  :pff

that's because he runs the club within budget and doesn't 'do a Ridsdale'.

Gordon Shepherd is more than able to handle any backlash on here...

He will continue to run the Club in a prudent, fiscal manner whether we all approve or not.
That is his job, for which he takes no payment.
He thinks like us - as a fan, but is responsible for the prudent management of the Club.
A job I would not envy under any circumstances.

Would you like that responsibility?
I know I wouldn't.
I have no affinity to GS, I have just met him in my role as a teacher and a request I made on behalf of my school and the pupils.
I found him intelligent, charming and passionate about the club.
But, as I have said, The Club PR is in need of a massive boost.
I wish they would give me the job part time. lol!

Tina, read your post with some interest concerning your discussion with that man. However, I also wounder if you challenged him,in an acceptable manner of course, about the lack of good p.r. comming out of the club. I ask this only because if this man is challenged and it forces a need for him to latteraly think and repond he sometimes appears not to cope then walks away.Purely my opinion based upon personel experience

No, I wasn't in a position to challenge him at the time.

I do feel however, that when I do meet up with him again when the Schools return in the Autumn, I will maybe get a chance to do just that.
I shall be talking to him in September.
I know he will listen but he is a man who is very set on how he wants to proceed with the management of the Club.
