The 'man' was given community service for breaking the law but instead of serving it he has simply moved abroad and paid £3k instead. Instead of doing 250 hours community service he simply played 30 minutes of his game against us for free instead. The law is an ass at times.
Guy is out of our hair and therefore unlikely to reoffend in this country again. Given that prison costs in excess of 1K per week per offender, do we want to pay for him being incarcerated over here for a month or two? Collect the fine and cut our losses, I say.
I would rather pay for him to be incarcerated and set an example of him rather than giving out the clear message that you can simply pay your way out of trouble in this country.
Well, if he wants to buy out of 250 hrs community service he should be made to pay 250 hrs of HIS wages.
The fine should be based on a percentage of your earnings IMO. Carlos Tevez could probably find 3 grand that had fell down the back of the sofa.
Why do people think that just because you have more money you should have to pay more in fines? Fine is given on the seriously of the incident -not on what their bank balance is. If the offender as the money that’s not the courts fault. How do people think he can complete his community hours when he has moved to another country. Just another story of people getting jealous because he has the money. If you had the money and were given 250 hours of unpaid work would you buy them out because I’m sure you would? “Probably get a daft remark like no I would serve my punishment “Complete bull ****. Yes he did the crime but surely if you have the money why not use it to benefit you.
So if I killed somebody then the law would allow me to simply move to another country to avoid going to prison would it? No it wouldn't. He had been found guilty of breaking the law in this country and given a punishment for that. Shouldn't be allowed to leave the country until sentence is complete. Or another story of people wanting the law to be upheld and not allow arseholes who think they are above the law. I would like to think that legally I would be forced to do them or serve time in prison. I would be absolutely astonished if the law allowed me to simply move abroad instead and send a cheque in the post.
bit of a difference between cummunity hours and prison sentance dont you think Unpaid work cannot be taken out in a different country. If he an prison sentence he would have not been allowed to leave the country. Answer the question if you got given 250 hours of unpaid work and were a millionaire would you pay the fine and get away with getting up on a saturday and sunday morning to work all day for nothing or complete the hours Honest answer
Maybe fines should be set for the effect they will have on the offender? They're not I know, but maybe they should be.
I don't - they're both court ordered punishments, and they should be carried out. Then he has two choices - stay in the country until he has served the punishment, or pay to travel back to do each shift. I'd do exactly the same as he's doing. Doesn't make it right though, does it?
