Both these two lads are quickly becoming my favourite current Barnsley players. Even though at my advanced age, I should be mature enough not to have favourites! Both lads received criticism from fans on here before they'd even pulled on the shirt. Yet both have adapted well to the Championship and fitted in quite smoothly. They have strengthened the side and look true Championship players. Although they give 100% every match they play (as do all the players), I've been especially impressed with their ability on the ball. Irrespective of which Division we're playing in next season, I'm looking forward to watching these two as Barnsley players whilst I still can.
Mine too mate, it was great to see them play ‘live’ and delighted that there’s a good chance of them being with us for the next few seasons. Both class.
I think a fit Carlton Morris that starts more games hits 20 goals next season. Sadly, I think if we don't secure promotion last night could be the only game some of us see Brittain play for Barnsley.
Well said mate. I like Carlton and Callum too. I'm looking forward to see what gems we can find in the summer too
I think it's fair to say, thanks to Valerien, we're a much more attractive potential employer than previously.
Really? What contract is he on? If he's not out of contract this season, he's the type of player I would expect us to hang on to. unless a daft number comes in like, which I'd be surprised at. I think he's been great by our standards, but not sure how many of the other promotion contenders would see him as stand out for them. definitely not PL either, for me. not yet anyway. Chien said we'd be a stronger squad next season. If we are, we need to be holding on to our key players. Mowatt and DK I'm pretty much resigned to because of the contract position (unless we get promoted). The one I'm actually most worried about is Val. I'd be amazed if offers didn't come in for him. We'll see..
Do you expect the owner to say anything else though? Hardly going to say the opposite during the week of the Playoffs! Also with reinvestment from sales they'd argue our squad will be stronger. Might also give Val a war chest to shape the squad even more to his own liking as well which could be a reason for him to stay. Not suggesting there'll be a fire sale but I would expect two or three to move on - excluding Mowatt and Dike. I think that's our model and the whole point of long contracts is so you can max the value of a high performer and not have your hand forced at the last minute. I could see Brittain signing for any/all of the relegated teams as well as those promoted for anything between £6 and £8 million.
I think after a lot of fans perceived 'the spreadsheet' to be a bit of an experiment they weren't too sure of, both in L1 and the Championship, these two lads more than any have proven the fact that more often than not we unearth some genuine talent. The spreadsheet debate is almost dead, and these 2 have done a lot to put it to bed.
