was listening to Jamie Carragher on TalkSport last night, came across well and answered his critics (especially Adrian Durham) about his decision to retire from international football (although I still think this was a wrong one, not as wrong as Parry or McCullock tho!!!) but anyway, he was on about young players breaking into the first team and how they dont get a chance. It got me thinking, we dont have a great track record with this, I can only recall about half a dozen over the past 15 years! Then I remembered Sean McClare, he was given a really rough ride by tarn fans, we destroyed that lad and drove him out of the club, not the easiest thing to cope with as a 21 year old!!!! Why do we settle for 2nd rate foriegn crap instead of nurturing our own?? Dario Gradi & Crewe aside it seems to be the English footballing disease!
RE: Doubly agreed. nt McClare had a special ingredient that you can't teach; the ability to be in the right position at the right time. A bit like Stevie G, he always seemed to pop up when it mattered, but unlike Stevie G, had no idea what to do with the ball when he got it. Shame such a gift was wasted on him.
