went to the final nite on monday - shame its had to close - the lads who were running it were been screwed by a certain brewery so supose summert had to give.Over the years had some great times in there and the last 18 months it has been a pleasure to call in - sup some decent ale at fair prices and listen to some cracking music. on Monday EXIT CALM did a absolute blistering set to rammed boozer - a band worthy of bringing the cutrtain down - the place was drunk dry and every possible good tune ever recorded played - brill nite and ta number 7 for some good memories - 1-0 to the grabbing brewery Barstewards
It's nothing to do with any of the breweries that it has closed. It's owned by Enterprise Inns which is simply a pub company. Everyone always blames the breweries when a pub closes!!
Cracking boozer use to visit every match day & also on a night out. Not everyone cup of tea but it was always full. (pint)
Mate I used to run a boozer in Town that was owned by Enterprise. I can assure you that they screw the tenants royally. They offer little or no support, they constantly increase cost of products and rent and when you need them most they disappear. Enterprise set the price of the beer they sell to you and as you are tied in you have no option but to be butt fecked at their discretion. In my opinion the pub companies now run their estates as property investments and it is often in their interests for pubs to change hands often. Cnuts. End of.
Agree completely, BUT Enterprise are not a brewer! They're a Pub Co. It's the pub co's that are killing the trade, not the breweries as many people think. I used to work for a company that sold products to pub co's, and after seeing the price they then sold it to their tennants was just daylight robbery! I can't understand anyone nowadays leasing a pub where they are fully tied in for everything. Think Pubmaster were the last company to actually offer their tennents decent rents and prices along with support. Shame they got bought out...
Many a Friday/Saturday evening we'd start the night upstairs and then, after going round town, finish downstairs in the No.7. Not been in for years but plenty of memories of the place.
soz yes youre quiet correct - not a brewery - company that owns pubs/pub leases - brain in reverse - still a set of grabbing barstewards though you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Fernandes in Wakefield is a classic example of a **** hole boozer, with quality beer. 5 star pub, as too is Harry's bar.
exit calm played ! proper good band , formed out of the ashes of lyca sleep... anyone into verve / my bloody valentine etc would love em.
Used to be a decent pub But for ages has sold arguably the worst beer in town. And that takes some doing.
decent place with a bit of originality but a bit cliquey? afyter the Chelsea match they booted everyone out because it was too busy. Perhaps if they had sought more customers they might have made more money to keep it open?
