snap!

Rhysaa persuasoria is one of the largest ichneumon wasps in the UK. It can be encountered in many Shropshire woodlands, where females are often seen "drilling" into timber - as in this photograph. The wasp drills deep into wood, to lay it's eggs on larvae of Wood-Wasps that live in timber. The larvae of the ichneumon parasitise the Wood-Wasp larvae.
