A Celtic fan in Milan was killed on Tuesday night after being knocked down in a traffic accident.

The man, who has not been named, was in the city to watch his side's UEFA Champions League tie against the Italian giants.

He was struck by a taxi at shortly before midnight and taken to the Niguarda hospital, but doctors were unable to save him and he died later that evening.

"We can confirm that a British citizen was killed last night in a road traffic accident at 11.30pm involving a taxi," said Joanne Yeadon, press officer at the Milan consulate.

"Next of kin have been informed. My colleagues are dealing with the authorities and offering consular assistance."

Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the victim was a 37-year-old Scottish man.

If he was on his way to the game he was setting off early, should have stayed in the hotel a bit longer!

He was a 46year old(I think) from Cumbernauld, near Glasgow. Can't remember his name!

Milan were trying to keep Celtic fans out of the home end, a harsh way to go about it in my opinion!
