http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16137728.stm Scummy club - scummy supporters ..... almost make Cardiff fans look Angelic ......... almost
Re: what were they chanting I went to Celtic park a month or so ago and there was a clamp down on the singing - police filming etc but there were banners expressing their anger at this. There were a few sectarian chants but weren't offensive. Got to admit I've never heard a crowd sing as much in the second half which was good because the game was awful
Re: what were they chanting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuvl1IEtEn8 Scum ..... not more really to say - You'd have to drag my dead body to that **** hole of a ground .....
Come off it Great fans, great supporters. Nothing scummy about them in the slightest, and I had first hand experience of them around six times a year for five years.
Re: Come off it Yeh they come across as really cool, genuine all round good eggs ..... surely 'great' is too small a word for these men amongst men .... Ironically they'll desperate to join our league ..... oh the irony
Re: Come off it I come from Rangers supporting Scottish heritage and have to say there are large elements of fans on both sides who are just as bad as each other. Sadly Secterianism is rampant in Scottish football, not just in Glasgow. It embarasses the clubs and it embarasses Scotland. Hopefully the horrendous new levels it reached last year towards Neil Lennon (and other high profile Catholics) has shocked people in to doing something about it.
Re: Come off it Let them both drown in their own Bigotry - fine ....... But when you start verbally abusing the British army etc etc ..... unbelievable ...... the day Celtic gets 'invited' into our league is the day I stop watching football
Re: Come off it It does come from both sides you're right - i spend quite a lot of time in Scotland and I've only seen the friendly side of the banter. They are very passionate about their football , as scots in general seem to be about most things, but there are some that take it too far as seems to be the same at a lot of clubs.
Re: Come off it Yeah LR, and to be fair it is easy to overstate how many people are involved and tar everyone with the same brush but there is a definite issue that needs confronting. Tagli Telli - whilst I agree that it is unacceptable it is no worse than the anti-Irish/Catholic stuff the Rangers fans sing. Those invovled are a bad as each other.
Re: Come off it A lot of clubs don't have an affiliation with a group of people who, in their eyes, have a number of specific greivences with said army. I would reiterate I am a Rangers follower but Celtic fans calling the British army scum is no worse than what a lot of Rangers fans chant. Whether it be Jock Stein Knows, unionist songs, or anti-Irish/immigrant chants.
Re: Come off it I understand your point and I appreciate your arguement - When you take your son to The Emerates and that scum lot boo the British army in a post match presentation and your 14 yr boy asks why scottish people are booing their army and calling them murdering cowards when, there's all likely scottish lads in that bridgade ..... Scum - always are always will be ..... How anybody can 'support' them is beyond me .......
Re: Come off it I don't think being Scottish has anything to do with it. The key point is those that are booing would say they are Irish Catholics and that the Britsh Army murdered Irish Catholics in Northern Ireland where they are originally from. Again I'm not condoning it but that is the context, worsened by the incredibley complex issues that are particular to Glasgow.
Re: Come off it .... I think you mean terrorists .... The sentance should read 'British Army shot terrorists in Northern Ireland' ...... Its a complex I know......... I have my view, its very straight forward ..... I really despise Celtic, the club and their bigoted fans
Without sounding racist It's something which seems rather rife in Scotland in particular, 'illicit chanting' and in general, 'illicit activities'. It's no wonder all Scottish clubs haven't been banned from Europe, because they seems to be some sort of controvesy involving either Rangers or Celtic every year.
