I can't seem to get interested these days. Wasn't really bothered which 'English' team got through. Can't now get motivated about supporting Liverpool in the final. They're our third or fourth best Premiership team with a smattering of England qualified players. Does television big up the games or are most of them boring? I seem to remember the European Cup being exotic and exciting. Is it all nostalgia or has it lost the plot?
it will never happen but................ it should revert to being just the Champions of each country
Starting to feel like you - Liverpool haven't won the title for nearly 20 years and hardly come close to challenging in that time. Lost interest in the UEFA Cup a few years ago...used to love European weeks
Agreed entirely. And it should be knockout all the way. You can name the countries going to get into the semis before the season starts. The days of Helsingborg, Sparta Prague and their ilk winning finals is long gone. Boring as f**k.
Money, money, money! If they reverted back to a knockout competition with just the Champions playing then get ready for a European Super League breakaway.
And modern day players racking up all those "appearances" All the great names of the past don't even appear on the list of highest "European Cup" appearances - merely because of the number of games played in the modern day. Half of the games are meaningless. so there's no wonder we are all getting fed up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Cup_and_Champions_League_statistics#All-time_appearances
Remember some Swedish side getting into final. Thought it was them, but might have been Malmo. Can't recall if they won it.
A European Super League would be the biggest damp squib of all time if it got created.
Its doubtful that they would want more than 20 teams in it so I guess there would be quite a few "biggies" left in the "Wilderness".
They would have to have some American style conference and play-off system as 95% of the games would be meaningless.
I doubt that many would want togive up the national leagues.
