(©Empics)

Championship Team of the Year: All of them heroes - from Murray to McSheffrey By Dave Smith 22-04-07
Matthew MURRAY - Wolves
It's fantastic to see 25-year-old Matt performing so well, on a regular basis, between the sticks for Wolves after being hampered for several seasons with injuries which halted his early progress. In three seasons, the former England Under 21 international amassed just seven appearances but he has been an ever-present this term.
Graham ALEXANDER - Preston
Long-serving defender who has been Preston's 'Mr Consistency' virtually since joining the club in 1999. A Scottish international with 27 caps, Graham is fast approaching the 400-appearance mark for North End. A prolific penalty taker, he has scored almost a hundred career goals and has made another telling contribution this season.
Gareth BALE - Southampton
Saints' brilliant young full back is being courted by all and sundry, and it's easy to see why. Made his debut for the club at 16, and soon after he became the youngest player ever to play for Wales (16 years and 315 days) when he came on as a sub against Trinidad & Tobago. His wonderful left foot makes him lethal at free kicks.
Darren MOORE - Derby County
A rock at the back for the Rams this season, the man they nicknamed 'Bruno' when he started his career at Torquay has been instrumental in helping Derby punch above their weight in the higher echelons of the Championship. Played in the Premiership for West Brom and looks as though he could be heading back their with Billy Davies and Co.
Curtis DAVIES - West Brom
A member of the PFA's ever-expanding Player Management Agency, Curtis is a class act who deserves to be playing in the Premiership. Made his name at Luton, and it didn't take Albion long to recognise his enormous potential - and later make him captain. An England Under 21 international, he's destined for greater things.
Jason KOUMAS - West Brom
Since returning to the Hawthorns after an impressive year on loan at Cardiff, the Welsh international has been a revelation and has shown West Brom fans what they were missing when they crashed out of the Premiership. Rejuvenated at Albion under Tony Mowbray, he has repaid the manager's faith with a number of match-winning displays.
Carlos EDWARDS - Sunderland
It's been quite a year for Carlos; eye-catching performances for Trinidad & Tobago were followed by a £1.5m move to Sunderland where, under Roy Keane, he quickly settled and immediately won the Black Cats' fans over with goals against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Birmingham. Next stop, the Premiership?
Dean WHITEHEAD -Sunderland
Played more games than any other Sunderland player this season, and has been a key player for Keane during the club's dramatic resurgence since the Irishman took charge at the Stadium of Light. Having relinquished the captaincy once, to concentrate on his football, he was reinstated by Keane who was quick to recognise his leadership qualities.
Diomansy KAMARA - West Brom
A contender for the PFA website givemefootball's Fans' Player of the Year award, the Senegalese international has certainly rediscovered his goalscoring touch this season. After managing just three goals in his first season at the Hawthorns, he has been scoring at a rate better than a goal every two games as Albion have maintained their promotion challenge.
Michael CHOPRA - Cardiff
Went to the same school as Alan Shearer, and he's got the same eye for goal as the Newcastle and England legend. Having been loaned out on four occasions by Newcastle - to Watford, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Cardiff - Michael turned down the chance of a new contract at St James' Park, opting for a permanent move to Ninian Park where his goals have made him a firm favourite.
Gary McSHEFFREY - Birmingham
Coventry City fans were gutted when Gary made the switch to Birmingham at the start of the season, three days after his 24th birthday. The Sky Blues' loss has certainly been Bruce's Blues' gain, and his goals have given Birmingham a realistic chance of bouncing back to the Premiership at the first time of asking - little wonder the fans call him 'Sheffchenko'.
