not good. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/mar/23/coronavirus-sport-premier-league-tokyo-olympics The expert repeatedly emphasised how uncertain the future looks. There could be a second or third wave of the virus. It could mutate into something worse. However, when I asked him whether there was any chance that this season’s Premier League and Champions League might be finished soon, or the Olympics could take place as planned, he was absolutely clear. “I think it’s delusional to think it’s going to happen. If people are saying that they’ve got absolutely no idea about what’s about to hit them.”
zero, nada, nil. they should chalk it off now and start working out a way of how to relegate Sheffield Wednesday and stop Leeds going up.
"Indeed as the crisis grows I wonder if our top clubs will start feeling a responsibility to help those lower down the food chain. If the Premier League clubs can fork out £250,000 each for Richard Scudamore’s £5m golden goodbye then surely they can find a pot of money to help lower league clubs".
I think a better question is chances of next season starting - I can easily see there being no realistic chance of starting a new season this calendar year - maybe we will finish up skipping a year - finishing off this season do decide the leagues for the 2021 season this time next year?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ockdown-to-fight-coronavirus?CMP=share_btn_tw New Zealand are shutting for a month and don't have any deaths yet. Over here people are dying and we have the PL and FL trying to plan a return for Football that's not going to be happening.
We will be fortunate if we can kick off in August 2021, I just hope we restart with a brand new season when we do.
in the grand scheme of things of course we all dont really care, but as this is a football (and a million other things) forum its right to chat about this imo.
There’s a huge difference between a sporting season not resuming/starting and being able to personally spectate at those events. Football clubs will need to pay player wages and attempt to avoid reimbursing Sky for lost TV rights. Expect a ruling that starts a behind-closed-doors season at the start of May, irrespective of whether it endangers player safety or not.
That would cause uproar. Wasting medical staff, equipment and vehicles at behind closed doors sporting events when the hospitals need all that more, plus fans going to the ground anyway leading to large crowds outside like has happened in other countries.
You're right and my response wasn't a dig at the op. Just a reflection of where my concerns are. I've not thought about football for a few weeks.
I dont care either but I think it is important to not dwell continually on the doom and gloom- its very easy to get sucked in to a spiral of depression maintaining conversations on lighter topics such as football, other sports, films and musicis quite important I think We have to have something to look forwards to and I am hoping to be back watching football in a few months time - whether its 6 months or a year or more we have to expect it to start again eventually. I must admit I care a lot less which division we are in though than I did a month ago
I'd say there is no chance and I think the FA / EFL need to stop procrastinating and take the right course of action.
The season needs to be ended now with promotion and relegation decided on current league positions. Enough of the season was played for standings to represent a strong sample. Tough for us but there you go.
