Sorry if this has already been posted, but I find this one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen in football. They have been fined for not playing their final fixture of the season. As have their opponents for pulling out of the match. The head of the league allegedly told the club president to put a team together of 'reserve, youth and INJURED players' to make up a starting 11. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.mi...-fulfil-9442050.amp?client=ms-android-samsung #TeamsLikeBarnsley
http://www.espnfc.com/futebol-brasi...fined-for-forfeiting-final-match-brazil-court Brazil's superior court for sports justice, (Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva, STJD), said on Monday that they will not apply any economic fines to Chapecoense or Atletico Mineiro for failure to play their final match of the Brazilian league season, the court's media official told Efe News Agency. The court determined that there will be no sanction from the prosecution because the case is atypical. The club were on their way to play in the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional when the plane they were in crashed near Medellin, Colombia, killing 71 people on board. STJD media relations director Daniel Lameira told Efe that because 19 players died on the flight, the typical economic fines associated with a forfeit would not apply. The league's code specifies that clubs who forfeit are subject to fines between $30 and $30,000 dollars. However, if there is reasonable cause for a match to not be played, no fine is assigned and Lameira said that was the case in this weekend's match. Because of the forfeit, both clubs were assigned a 3-0 loss, as per the league rules. The STJD said that having the Brazil Football Confederation fine the teams "goes against common sense."
It makes you wonder what sad people make this crap up. (not aimed at you Archie - I mean the people who are starting these rumours, which are steadily getting more and more dramatic with each telling).
It was posted yesterday. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?251153-Chapecoense The story is a fake story but like JD says who would get any satisfaction from making stuff like this up.
Apologies, I hadn't seen the counter article. I'd heard about the one issuing the fine on a football podcast. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
A lot of 'reputable news' is fake. Or lies, same same but different. Amused to hear liberal media blaming fake news for Trump's win.
