I must say, I'm a tad disappointed we've missed out on him and, if at least one new face isn't brought in by Saturday (preferably Adam Hammill) and we don't get the performance and/or result we are looking for at Hillsborough, I can see a lot of very, very unhappy and frustrated fans departing Sheffield on Saturday night. It's frustrating, when you see the likes of Blackpool signing exciting young talent, for what really (£500,000) is pittance and we're left foraging for the scraps. If we can't bring in the likes of Reuben Reid/Charlie Adam et al...then just who can we bring in? We've not replaced Brian Howard since he left, and we are looking like travelling to Sheffield on Saturday, with, what has to be said, is a makeshift midfield (should Anderson and Colace not make it). Butterfield has done very well in preseason, and deserves his chance, but will he be enough against proven Championship players? Time will tell I guess. I'm a supporter of Davey's and will be aslong as he's manager. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, and what he has to play with in regards to transfer money, but at the minute, it's not looking good. Our best hope of a transfer is Andy Gray. A signing, which, and I'm sorry to say, doesn't fill me with any excitement or confidence whatsoever. Signing Gray, for me, would be a step back. If we were to sign him, I'd wish him all the best, but I just don't think it's the way forward. Again, though, I can't judge, as like I said, I don't know what Davey has been given to spend and what the figures are regarding wages etc. *Sighs*...Come on you Reds.
Adam will know a fair bit of Ian Holloway he'll know sod all of...... the gawpshite we're lumbered with.
"we've not replaced Brian Howard" or Shipperly or Hignett or etc etc etc need I make a list, I think we all know this.
It was said when the last season finished that Davey would dilly dally.... in the transfer market, and so its proved, he's given himself a ready made excuse, the players need time to gel, that type of thing, he is NOT of an high enough profile to attract players of the standard we require to do well in this division, the good players he has attracted don't perform for him, we will struggle this year, good God I hope I'm wrong, but, the signs are'nt good.
RE: It was said when the last season finished that Davey would dilly dally.... Sorry Rufus but they did perform for him on Saturday and quite a few of them have come out and supported him publically. All in all we stayed up and they got the results that mattered in the end by performing for him.
Well I'm sorry, they under performed for the most part........ leaving us perilously close to league 1, the opposition lifted them on Saturday not Davey, this is of course my opinion, and if I could've seen any improvement during Davey's tenure then, yes, I would be looking forward to the new season and further improvement, remember his words before a ball was kicked last year, he said there would be a definite upturn in BFC's league finish, er! must have missed that.
RE: Well I'm sorry, they under performed for the most part........ What about the bad start we had with injuries? Davey couldn't play his best 11 for ages and ages.
RE: Well I'm sorry, they under performed for the most part........ Spot on - and let's not forget what he said in the YP last week
Is it not part of the manager's remit to make sure cover is......... available for such events, injuries and suspensions, we could debate all day about the pro's and con's of Davey but, even the most ardent fan of Davey's must surely admit he has not improved one iota since taking over.
RE: What did he say in the YP? nt "My objective this season is to get the football club within striking distance by the time we come to the turn of the New Year. If we are 12th to halfway by January, we will have the opportunity to kick on and get towards the play-offs." I'm sure the goal posts will be moved at some point during the season and we are told that 21st will be a success
RE: He sure can talk the talk, it's the walking the walk that causes difficulties. nt He might have a bit more credibility if he said he was targetting a mid table finish and being safe by April as that might be a bit more realistic Then again I'm sure we heard all this at the start of last season
