My view on Charlie Adam is that if the reports on him from Davey and other people are true which is that he would be a top championship player if he came, If I was Davey I would go out and buy him regardless whether he is a big drinker or a jack the lad. If the lad has the ability to be a top championship player then he must be a better bet than a player who is hard worker and gives 100%. Hard work and graft only gets you so far in football, my example of this would be Sam Togwell, always gave 100% but was never quite good enough to be a decent Championship player. If he has the ability he could be the difference of a safe mid-table finish or another relegation scrap. If he has a big ego then he will come for a couple of seasons then go a top Championship but hopefully we would make a decent profit on him. Blackpool are clearly struggling to get their man, Mr Davey if you are not already go and get him so he is playing for us at Oakwell and not against us!

    agree 100%

if davey bid £600k (what we got for muller) and offered him decent wages we'd get him. and don't tell me we havnt got the money. we just got rid of leon, sousa and muller, they must have been on at least £7k a week between them.

I know better than to ask about sources, I have my own too and never let on. It's the safest way.
Anyway. keep up the good work. Enjoy your posts .

he has told Blackpool he wants to go back to Rangers and plead for his chance there.I am betting he will not get that chance and will sign for Preston NOT Blackpool. I think we were also rans in this affair, only to bolster the bidding war. This is just my take on all this and not in anyway facts, could be totally wrong.

It looks as though the delay is because Adam does not want to go anywhere and will plead his case as long as it takes for Walter Smith to give him another chance at Rangers. I would imagine that Smith is using the situation to extract some disciplinary response from Adam. I have no idea how it will end, but Smith would have got shot by now if there were no chance of his staying at Rangers. In that case, if he gets his way and stays at Rangers, we should be in there trying to negotiate a loan deal with a recal clause to Rangers as our best bet. That means that Adam stays a Rangers player, which he wants, and we get our man for a while. Adam gets regular first team football.

That's presuming that we would take a loan deal. Preston's interest is probably linked to the McKenna to Forest saga.

    Hypothetically speaking

because I wouldn't know whether Adam is a jack the lad or whether Barnsley are serious about signing him or for that matter whether he would be a good signing...

I personally wouldn't want anyone who didn't give 100%, regardless of their ability. Why should they be given a break when others are trying so hard to make it? So what if they're still good at what they do. It would be an insult to the people who pay their hard earned at the turnstiles. And that's before we get to how disruptive and demoralising it could be to the entire squad. We talk about pride, passion and the fighting spirit... about what it should mean to pull on the red shirt. I cannot understand how anyone could want anything less.

    RE: Hypothetically speaking

Fair enough point taken but my point is that in football giving 100% only gets you so far. I’d love to pick 11 players who are giving 100% week in week out but will that get us to the safe mid-table position that everyone no wants no it won’t. If the lad has top Championship ability then get him signed now because like I say he could be the difference between us finishing in a safe mid-table place or another relegation scrap! Another thing Ronaldo does not give 100% but I think we might just have him in our team given the chance :D

    What we need of course

are players with ability and drive. They shouldn't be mutually exclusive. Nor should we have to expect to pay more for someone who will give 100%. It should be a given. I agree, there's no point playing players that aren't up to scratch. But there's nothing more frustrating than seeing a player slack off.

Ronaldo hasn't got to where he is without working hard, looking after himself and adopting a professional attitude. He might not look like he's giving 100% all the time (not sure about that one) but he's no jack the lad or slacker.

Would he be a top Championship player though??

If so, how come top Championship teams arent in for his signature?

But if they were then we'd probably have no chance

    A bit of a catch 22 situation

Some people feel we should only be going after top Championship players but we don't have the funds of many clubs so we can't compete to get them!

RE: But if they were then we'd probably have no chance

Oh I fully understand that but I think were getting a bit carried away by the fact that hes a Rangers player. They obviously dont have any problem with releasing him and there doesnt seem to be any interest from the bigger championship clubs to suggest that he would be a top championship player as quoted.
