Worth a shout? Experienced pro, good target man, loads of experience above the level we are playing at, proven goal scorer, played six games in the past two months so should be pretty sharp and free transfer. I know he's 33 and not as good as in his prime. But for a free transfer who's played recently and proven it could be worth a punt until the summer with the option of another year. He'd strengthen our front line and do a good job up with Cole and Norwood. Even if he didn't play regularly 90 minutes his team mates would learn things being around someone who's played hundreds of games in a successful career.
Way, way past his best which is why an Australian team is releasing him.. I remember David Hirst playing Premier League and then 5 years later playing in the Sheffield Sunday league. The downward slope is quite steep.
He asked to be released for family reasons as the tweet and article in my earlier post says. I would be surprised if he was out of our budget as i wouldn't think a Championship club would want him.
We need to be looking for a striker who’s better than what we already have & has the potential to make the step up to Championship level if needed. Hopefully the club have targets lined up.
Not a bad shout. Reading went in for him in the summer. But he chose Australia. And Andy Carroll is about to be released, Swindon also said to be in the running.
I have said him not long ago. Ok so he is in the national league but he does know where the goal is. I watch that league many times on BT sport. I find the football very competant and very entertaining. I certainly would be happy with him as a signing next month.
Because he's only just signed for them, signed 3 year contract. He's already broken records in non league and their owners have already said he's not for sale in Jan unless a stupid 'extraordinary offer' comes in. Our offer will be nowhere near ordinary let alone extraordinary bud.
I'm in the "not a chance" camp on this one. We already have Norwood. We need someone up & coming that can press & get on the end of some of these crosses that our current strikers are not making the most of. Not sure who that is. I fear we may need to sell a defender to fund it though. I hope that isn't Mads, but may be.
A loan or free transfer is the likely option with our money woes. Austin might do a short term job, but I can't see us matching his wage demands. Derby County however...
I don't see him getting a Championship club. If he does his agent needs a rise. Whoever he joined at our level he would strengthen. He could be the old experienced head up top that could get us promoted like Hendrie and Wilkinson did.
I'm very confident if him going to Derby. It's the sort of signing they've been making. Or Wigan. Basically, someone who'll be in admin again in the next coupe of years.
More likely is Tom Cannon at Everton who I've heard we've enquired about. He's banged them in this season for their under 21s and scored regularly in the Papas John's trophy. He's been around the first team but likely to be sent out on loan next month.
