But when we had all that furore from the Scousers a few years ago (did you see that nauseating video the 'celeb' fans made, where Ian McCulloch more or less compared the Liverpool owners lack of flashing the cash around on overpaid players to rape?) the biggest gripe they had with their owner was that he wasn't flashing the cheque book about. They are all happy now though. I would seriously love it if one of the big teams in this country went under or even if they had to drop down and start again like Rangers have had to. I consider the fans and armchair fans of the big clubs to be one of the factors that have led to football being in the mess it is now. Unfortunately though it is relatively small clubs in Luton and Portsmouth that have suffered the plummets through the leagues and, as much as I don't like Pompey fans due to the slightly less than warm welcome they tend to give us down there, I don't think the fans of those two teams have encouraged, nay demanded, outrageous spending like the fans of the top half dozen teams have done. As a great man once said, Love Barnsley, Hate Football!
If Liverpool fail the UEFA FFP rules, then technically they would be unable to play in the Champions League next season. I could *almost* want them to win the league in that case... It would be really funny if UEFA applied the rules properly and the English entrants to the CL next season were the top four teams that weren't overspending (wouldn't have a clue who they were though!)
It will take a major play to completely fail to change anything. It's not something I'd wish on any set of fans we all know what it's like to have your teams future in jeopardy but the Premieshit is just completely out of control. You get even Barnsley fans equating spending **** loads of money as being indicative of the strength of our leagues rather than in some ways a weakness. I reckon we would do ok in Europe Dawson and Mellis v Iniesta and Javi no contest really...
