Was just about to post this myself before you beat me to it! Excellent article as ever by the brilliant David Conn.

It's hard to read it as a Barnsley fan without a jet of conflicting emotions; anger that these clubs believe they are justified in putting peoples' livelihoods at risk by overspending, pride that Barnsley don't take this route and live within our means, disillusionment that a major reason our budget is so far below other Championship clubs and we struggle each year is largely due to the fact that other teams are literally cheating and paying sums for players who would thus never consider Barnsley as they know they've got a couple of years attractive pay at the Leicesters and Blackburns of this world, even if those clubs go bust in the long term.

I really, really hope the FFP works. The penalties WILL punish clubs severely for greed, and where it hurts too - their bank balance. It could be the first step in curbing the excesses that make many of us begin to wonder why we bother, and reclaim something like a fairer sport. I would love that to happen, but I could see some European court being persuaded of a loophole by savvy lawmen and throw the whole thing out.

I keep hoping one of these over-spenders: Leicester, Blackburn, Brighton, whoever, will go bust soon.

For years, people have been saying it's just a matter of time. Cheating sods will get their come-uppance eventually.

It doesn't happen. It never happens, and so the whole rotten spiral will continue.

Love Barnsley. Hate football. That's how I see it.

I hope FFP workers too but I do have doubts and can see the ones that rack up the losses issuing challenge after challenge. The Football League needs to be strong and say no worries if you don't want to play by the rules then leave the league.

FFP doesn't go far enough. I think every team in each division (regardless of crowd size, financial backing, etc) should start each season with the exact same budget, which comes directly from the FL as their share of the TV rights. Success would go to those that made the best use of their resources and budget.

Gate receipts would go on developing stadia, paying off debts, development of new players and community work (women's football, junior teams, working in schools, etc).

The biggest deterrent they can use but seem not to is simple.

Go bust and you start at the bottom.
    Lose the league share etc

Might have over simplified it but you get the picture.

And that includes what we did.

I just read that and thought the same. Totally sums up the way I now feel. What a fantastic slogan for a t-shirt...

The Football league have to stay strong.

Clearly though it WILL affect teams. Seen a lot of people post on here say it means nothing. If they are complaining like that then that clearly isn't true.

Was about to post the same quote (well all the paragraph in truth). The European results over the last couple of weeks show where the PL stands in relation to other leagues, there's a fear that FFP will not allow the English game to buy success again.

    Sorry but that isn't true.

All out clubs are sticking to. Chelsea have made a big point of it but have warned UEFA that all the other teams have to also.
Manchester United will be fine. Former Liverpool guy starting with C said manchester united will be able to spend 100M a season and be fine. Arsenal have a nick name of the bank. Manchester City say they will meet it and are improving. They will not keep spending, it was apparently not the plan.

I'm confused, if Man Utd spend £100M, then they might be competitive in the Europa League next season (IF they qualify). There's clearly a gulf between the top of the PL and the best in Spain and Germany (and PSG). The PL needs teams to be competitive in Europe to maintain the 'brand' world wide. An average league will not sell. This bothers them. I'm interested to see how things pan out at PSG and Monaco.

But please tell me which part isn't true.
