Set to re-sign for Sheff Utd. After all they've achieved this season, finally getting out of L1 after six years trying, they are bringing back the scumbag whose actions cost them promotion five years ago. They just can't help themselves. And £500,000 on a striker who has seven goals this season in L1 makes it extra bizarre. Ah well. It's a funny old game.
Aside from the "oh noes he might've done a bad thing 5 years ago", wtf are they hoping to gain from a striker who's scored single figures for a relegated league one team? They're going straight back down if that's the approach they're taking this summer.
I'm quite happy about this. Hope that's as far as their ambition goes Let's be fair, if he wasn't called Ched Evans, they wouldn't even think about signing him. Chesterfield must be laughing
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39697804 He barely scored a goal for a side getting relegated and that was when he was actually fit enough to play, in a poor season for being injured. Can't imagine him doing the business at championship level. Blunts didn't stand by him but all of a sudden want him back. Ched signed a new contract to show loyalty but now wants to jump ship. Chesterfield are the big winners here because they have got as much as we got for Winnall. If he hadn't signed the contract extension they wouldn't have got anything for him.
Horrible club, horrible human playing for it. I'd say I'm chuffed for Chesterfield as they've had the blunts pants down but as they actually signed him in the first place they can do one as well
I'm making my one and only comment in this thread because I know I'll get angry later at some of the inevitable responses. From a football perspective this signing makes absolutely zero sense. But at least it shows the calibre of player they're trying to attract. Hopefully they'll have a Wigan-esque post champions season. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Football Heaven will be interesting on Radio Sheffield tonight. I wonder what reaction will come from Sky's Charlie Webster who threatened to withdraw her sponsorship/support in and Jessica Ennis-Hill who said they would have to remove her name from a Stand if they re-signed Evans. I personally feel it could be a retrograde step as far as their Board are concerned especially as they know it was highly controversial last time round.
it does beg the question to be asked 'was this sorted out that he would do a year there and always come back to bumhole lane?'
Sheffield united fan just hit the nail on the head. He didn't want him anywhere near his club. The fact that he was judged to be not guilty doesn't take away the other fact that he and his Billy big time mates were sharing a woman in a hotel room. He's meant to be a professional footballer, not fecking Ben Dover, and as such is still a shocking example of what you can get away with when your famous. You have to draw the line somewhere Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Whatever we think, he is now an innocent man, guilty of no crime, and served two and a half years for a crime he has now been acquitted of. If you think no Barnsley players have ever doubled up with a girl I'm afraid you're probably blinkered. Not saying I agree with it, but still. It happens, and Ched Evans has a clear record legally. Conviction quashed, not guilty at retrial. When Charlie Webster and jess Ennis had their say, he was still a convicted rapist. They aren't likely to have the same stance now as they are public figures earning money from their profiles, and so couldn't be seen to castigate an 'innocent' man. Similarly they won't applaud the deal as they wouldn't want to be seen as turn coats or accepting of his morals. As mentioned, I'm more pleased that sheff Utd are spending that kind of money on a nearly 29 year old striker who's scored 5 league goals in division three and is likely to be quite mentally shot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't say he got away with the crime, I know he was found not guilty after a retrial. My point is about morality, and what is deemed acceptable behaviour. I don't think a footballer should be taking turns with a woman in a hotel room, and putting himself in such a precarious position in the first place. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Oh I'm not blinkered, I think you're probably right. Doesn't make it any more acceptable. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I agree, completely. Most would I hope. My point was just that if any club was to set its stall out to avoid signing players who have done such a thing then the potential recruitment list would be very short - and so Barnsley will no doubt have signed such players. So to castigate them for signing him would be a bit hypocritical, he's not a criminal. Sheff Utd can rightly claim that Evans did nothing 'wrong' in the eyes of the law. Let them sign him. Innocent man. Has-been striker. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That Blunts fan who said, they have 3 strikers who will get 20 goals in the Championship. Sharp, who has never cut it at this level. Evans, don't think he's played much in the Championship, and Leon Clarke!!! I know, I've just stopped laughing too.
