A confession

I woke up this morning with the pre-season jitters. It's a big game first up and I agree with you in so far as it could set the tone for the early part of the season. Let's just hope we get off to a flyer and that it's a positive tone.

I'll be tracking our progress against a point a game as we build towards safety. I know you feel we should strive for more but that'll be my personal measure of the success of this season. And it might help me get through some otherwise miserable Sunday mournings (sic).

Come on mate- try and be realistic. We've had 4 seasons of utter *****, last season we had some highs and lows and it ended the best possible way.

We've been promoted, we're not going to get results ever week in our first season back. What would you rather have:

    A) Win plenty of games in a lower ale house league

    B) Invest heavily in playing staff, have a decent season but risk long term stability

    C) Have a crack this season with a reasonable squad and stay up within budget, whilst at the same time blooding some youngsters and getting some loanees in?

If we go down at least we're still a strong squad and financially secure.

Sorry YN but if its going to affect you that much this season you better get some valium in. I get really down when we're playing badly, but this is one season I'm gonna just deal with it and see what happens.

Maybe we should have stayed down then

Promoted teams generally struggle. Best way not to get depressed. Stay down and enjoy yourself at the top end of a lower league? At least that way you'll get lots of nice results on a Saturday.

    Genius

That had completely passed me by.

The lack of ambition and big money signings, a chairman/club that doesn't care.

Then go on to complain how could they possibly increase ticket prices to watch lower division rubbish, none of his mates had bought a ticket (again), and the only way to get out of this division was to spend money, but it was completely unreasonable to expect the fans to pay more to watch that rubbish.

No end of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Happy as pig in ****.

    Simple eh ...

And here I was trying to adopt a resonable approach to the season when the answer to eternal happiness was staring me in the face ... innane ranting, making a point that doesn't need to be made, and then continually ramming it down everyones throat in the vain hope that people will give in arguing and agree.

The path to enlightenment was staring me in the face all the time and I never saw it.
