At half time last night they were discussing the sending off incident.Graham Poll was in the studio and was asked for his view of the incident. He thought that Phil Dowd had made the right decision. Then when asked about Phil Dowds hesitation in showing the red card,Poll said well you have to appreciate he was SENDING OFF THE ENGLAND CAPTAIN.Just as we suspected all along, the top earners have a different set of rules to the rest. Now we know why smaller clubs suffer at the hands of refs when up against top clubs. Did it matter wether John Terry or Dave Regis committed the foul the punishment should be the same.

    Agreed

But it goes further than that, it also depends on the opposition, if Chelsea had been playing say Barnsley, he would have probably have got booked.

Comments such as the ones made by Poll may well be true but to be uttered and therefore confirmed by an ex official is worrying and probably go some way to explaining whh he's no longer refereeing. Too many of them are swayed by the big names and in my opinion this is as bad as cheating. The game needs a clear out starting with the FA.

Though we always suspected that it goes on,we know from our time in the prem.to have a former official admit they have to be more careful when dealing with the England captain, than they do with lesser mortals.Proves that smaller clubs and lesser known players are children of a lesser God. RE: Another problem

The ref should make a decision on what he sees at the time. His decision should be based purely on the laws of the game. Not on who was the perpetrator or who was the victim. To have any sort of video ref (apart from goaline technology)can only add to the confusion. The so called experts in the studio are rarely unanimous in their interpretation, that even after seeing the incidents in slomo from different angles.

    RE: Another problem

I agree about videos. The only technology the game needs is goalline. The game might have to stop for a while if there is a debatable decision. The FA should be using video retrospectively though. If there is an injustice it should be sorted out ofter the game. The result stands but discipline can be looked at after the event, and should be done fairly across the board. FA won't change though, they are good at ignoring criticisms from 'outside' the game.
