The best sporting event on the calendar (maybe tied with the Masters) is upon us. I know there are plenty of people on here who like a flutter, so letsbehavinyou. Fonzie's Flutters for day one are as follows: Race One - Bentelimar Race Two - Josses Hill Race Three - Ned Stark Race Four - Jezki Race Five - The Pirate's Queen Race Six - Sego Success Race Seven - Horizontal Speed All to win, no each way appy wearing bets for me.
RACE 1 JOLLYALLAN RACE 2 JOSSES HILL RACE 3 PENDRA RACE 4 JEZKI RACE 5 POLLY PEACHUM RACE 6 THE JOB IS RIGHT RACE 7 BOLD HENRY Then a quick visit to the bank to top up funds for Wednesday !! Took me until Thursday to back a winner last year !
Possibly, but I'm a mug value merchant. Had a good couple of Saturdays the last 2 weeks so I'm playing with the bookies money at the mo but if past performance is any guide that will soon change. Still a great meeting though. We were up in the Cotswolds near Stow at the weekend and the buzz is already there
He probably will, but a lot of his are too short a price for my liking. I also like to follow trends at Cheltenham, and a few of his fall down on them. Douvan - Not run within the last 45 days. Not run well in a race of more than 12 runners. Un De Sceaux - Never run at Cheltenham before. Has fallen before. Front runners poor record in the race. Faugheen - Not run in 2015. Only one of the last 23 winners did not run in the same calendar year (Rock On Ruby). Christmas hurdle winners have a poor record. (Incidentally, I think this will probably win - it's a machine) Annie Power - Big absence to overcome. This suited Quevega but Annie has run best after having a prep run (again, should probably win, but is too short a price)
My early picks: 1.30 Douvan and Qewy ew 2.05 Vibrato Valtat and Sail by the Sea ew 2.40 Monbeg Dude or Gallant Oscar 3.20 Faugheen or Hurricane Fly or The New One or Jezki - too difficult to call, I'll probably go with the Fly. 4.00 Annie Power and Bitofapuzzle ew 4.40 Sego Success and Cogry 5.15 Bold Henry or Irish Cavalier
Interesting comment Fonzie, given that Annie Power has only been beaten once in 12 outings, and that by only a length and a half in a Grade One hurdle!
Point taken, but most of her starts have been against inferior opposition. She probably will win, but I'm not risking 4/7 to find out. She had a hold up in the new year, and whereas it was a given that Quevega could be thrown in here after a year off, there's a chance that Annie might not.
I think that Douvan (up against a lot of other promising young hurdlers) and Un De Sceaux (streets in front of his rivals, but a very attacking running style for Cheltenham's stiff fences) could possibly be vulnerable. I'm very very strong on Faugheen. As for Annie Power, the only horse ever to have beaten her was last year's Timeform Jumps Horse of the Year, so I don't think Id be opposing her. But I'd have to agree 4/7 makes little appeal!
The bookies will be hoping you're right. If Ruby wins on all his four rides today bookies expect to pay out 100 million on that alone. It's expected big gamblers will put enough on the four timer in an accumulator to become an instant millionaire within about two hours. If he even gets three winners bookies should pay out instantly on the 1/2 for him to be top jockey.
I've lumped into Faugheen in champion hurdle, it'll win by more then 6 lengths easy Not done any other bets just yet
Race 1 - Seedling e/w Race 2 - Three Kingdoms e/w Race 3 - Lamb Or Cod e/w Race 4 - Faugheen (win) Race 5 - Bitofapuzzle e/w Race 6 - Perfect Gentleman e/w Race 7 - Stellar Notion e/w Good luck.
www.stanjames.com/regionals that even existing customers can get a free five pound bet with. You just sign in through the link, click on existing customer and then within two hours a fiver should be put in your account that you can only use on day one of the Cheltenham Festival. If you register asap then you should still have plenty of races to use the freebie on.
Found another offer with www.racebets.com where they are still giving new customers 7/1 on Ruby Walsh picking up a winner today when he should get another winner in his other three rides. You sign up, have to give your mob number to get a code and play through the free fiver three times, but you should still come away with plenty of free cash from the 40 you should get.
Level so far as all my bets are E/W. Think the bookies are in big trouble on day 1. Expect J.P. McManus has steamed in
They need favourite beating in champion hurdle because all winnings from first two will be going on that
Paddy Power were giving money back on all losers if the favourites won in the first 2. Reckon they did £2.5 million. Good publicity but bet (pun intended) it was to a smallish maximum stake
