Might sound like a wednesday fan but if we play anything like we did against burton we should get 6 or 7

If we play like the 2nd half yes. They could still get a goal.. Do we really want to concede a goal against a non league side? This isn't a dig at Chester just gives other teams a boost when playing us.

Bet you could find similar predictions on Liverpool and Chelsea forums before their games with little, lower-division nobodies Barnsley.

Who remembers Rhyl and Marine? Low points in our history. Not far away from Chester either.

Was that an F.A. Cup game in the 80s. When we had Larry Lloyd and futcher playing seem to remember going to that

Christ knows how we lost tonight, missed a pen, hit the post twice, 2 goal line clearances all before Macc scored! The lad from Barnsley looked handy when he came on.

Generally speaking though big FA Cup shock results are few and far between. It's just the press make so much of it that it looks like it happens more than it does.

If I recall correctly it was the '85 - '86 season. I am sure that I can remember Futch playing but I'm not sure about Larry May.

And us losing to Chester wouldn't be that big a shock to the rest of the country really. I raised an eyebrow for a second or two when I saw the Coventry v Worcester score, but that's about it. The way the FA Cup has been going in recent years results like that are becoming quite common.

There's 3 or 4 every round, when a team from 2 leagues below the other manages to pull off an upset. So it's not that uncommon.

There is a massive difference though between a conference league game and a 2nd round FA Cup tie. The game with us will be either Chester ' s biggest game of the season, or it will lead onto potentially their biggest game of the season. For us its a 2nd round cup game, maybe the opportunity to rest a couple of first team players. For Chester it's a chance of a massive pay day and a big 3rd round clash with a bigger fish than Barnsley.

No disrespect to Macclesfield but they couldn't have met Chester at a better time really, off the back of a big cup weekend and cup draw. They probably took their eye off the ball a little bit tonight, but when they play us, we will be their only focus and they will come to Oakwell with nothing to lose. I fancy Chester to give more of a fight than Burton did, and I don't expect us to win by more than 3 goals.

That said, this is only my opinion and certainly no matter of fact.

I remember getting absolutely battered by Bromsgrove with a far better team than this. To this day I'm still not sure how we won.

Lets hope the players dont take the same attitude its only a conference side and therefore reckon its a easy walk in the park to the next round .
otherwise we will become unstuck and in the papers for all the wrong reasons.
whilst i agree on paper we should beat teams of lower league standings, its not a divine right and knowing us, it wouldnt come as a suprise if we struggled and maybe came unstuck.
    i hope not .
That said i think we should applaud chester for making it this far and give them some respect for their achievements to date both on and off the field of play.
As for resting a few first team players for this game, are we then not in danger of following the big time charlies in the premier league who devalue cup games by playing their second string, which many complain about or is it a case of many on here are just dismissing chesters ability to succeed or contribute to a game that could be a potential banana skin for the reds, thats if the players take a lazy approach.

Didn't go to the Macclesfield game myself but we missed a penalty then they scored one. Just after Macc player hit a screamer into the top corner. 0-2 at half time. Even according to Sky News we played the better football and our 2 wingers gave them the runaround. Strange match when the Macc goalkeeper gets MOM after they have won 3-1.

Abit of a shock but not massive shocks. Not like Wrexham beating Arsenal for example. Or us beating champions league Chelsea to nill. Or coming from behind to win away at Liverpool.
