Hello everyone, made up to get Barnsley myself...new ground for me. I think this will be a TV match, hoping it's not Friday night though. If it's any other time we could well bring a couple of thousand, we took just shy of 1300 to Stockport in the 4th round qualifier and your place isn't too bad a journey (assuming the Pennine roads are ok). The last time I came across your fans was when we were in a Torquay indian restaurant when we were having a weekender years ago, you had Plymouth in the cup after they dumped us out in the previous round. Seemed like a sound bunch then.
I've been working in Preston mate and the motorways on a night time have been an absolute nightmare M6 M61 M60 M62 have all been balloted on way day or another, plus a big stretch is 50mph due to roadworks.
I'd be surprised if the game was televised, but I can it being part of the highlights package. We had around 4700 home supporters for the Burton game, at £10 per ticket. I'd be surprised if there were many more for the Chester game (no disrespect, but a cold December afternoon at home to a mid table non league side is hardly inspiring). I can see maybe 6-7.5k dependant on away supporters. We were impressive on Saturday against Burton, in what could well have been a banana skin, but we brushed them aside with complete professionalism. It was scary at times how well we controlled the game, and genuinely exciting to see the young squad that Wilson has built gel further. If we approach the game with the same attitude, I see no reason as to why we can't win, and that would've been my view for any team we'd potentially face, and goes for the Colchester match on Friday.
We've an away stand that hold just under 6,000. Feel free to bring as many as possible. Chances are, we'll only have 5,000 or so home supporters. If it's on TV, it'll be even less. Michael Owen's from Chester. Worra lovely person. Welcome to the BBS, pal. Do stick around.
Last time I remember playing Chester You were at Sealand Road, 3rd division, 2-2, we nicked a point at the end. Glavin back heel. Enjoy Oakwell pal. Hope you lads are back in the league soon.
Welcome on board Phil, hope you enjoy a good day out if you can make it, we're less than an hour from Stockport...traffic dependent, so it's not a million miles.
Re: Last time I remember playing Chester Cheers everyone. This journey will be a breeze after going Southend on Saturday, I hope your fans sing a bit...they were terrible! Don't be mislead by our home gates, our away following is disproportionately high since we reformed.
Hello my friend. Not sure how old you are (probably not as old as me... ) but I have happy memories of trips to watch the Reds at the old Sealand Road ground back in the 1980's. I can remember Ian Rush turning out for you lot before his big move to Liverpool. One of the games was an FA Cup tie I believe and we scored with virtually the last kick of the game to win 2-1 if my memory serves me right. Me and the missus love Chester as a city and have visited quite a lot in recent years. Wouldn't have minded the tie being away to be honest. I believe the new ground (Deva Stadium...?) is quite near where the old one was isn't it?
Ha or so many who have had to go with new grounds, great old style grounds can't be beaten...Stockport, Southend and now your place in the FAC is great.
Only one side of our ground is "old style". The other three are super modern jobs including exec boxes down one side. Hope you bring a couple of thousand or more because that away end looks enormous with hardly anybody in it.
Great memories of Chester away in the 1st round in the 80-81 season, I think it was Banks who it a very late winner in a 2-1 win. Big contingent from tarn on a cold open terrace. We went as far as the 5th round that season, lets hope it's a good omen to meet them again.
Remember it well. Neil Cooper got the first. I think it was also the day Bob Champion won the National on Aldaniti.
Did you reduce the prices for Burton fans too, I got my ticket and a ticket for my lad for £6 at Southend! Did they bring many fans?
I got car sick coming back home thro Stockport... Was it the year we went up under Norman Hunter ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
