    Its called meat bhuna. Always just presumed it was some sort of beef. Can never taste the meat through the spices anyway.

    When an Indian menu says meat it normally refers to lamb or goat. Unlikely to be beef as the cow is sacred to Hindus.

    But most Indian retaurants I have been in are actually Pakistani or Bangladeshi run and the owners are predominantly Muslim. Meat curries are invariably beef.

    The thing is that a lot of Hindus are actually vegetarian.
