There's been plenty of moaning on here about the way the club is run and what more the chairman could/should be doing. There appears to be a large element of mistrust between the board/chairman and some supporters. Isn't one way round this to have a chairman elected by the fans for a 3 or 4 year term? The candidates could have a manifesto, detailing their plans for tickets prices, new players, how finance would be raised etc. If a chairman was chosen this way, surely the fans and club would pull together.
Kind of like... What they do at Barcelona and Real Madrid then? Only if we get a rich chairman with a policy ala Real where they sign at least one big-named player every season!
RE: Kind of like... Someone wanted to do that at Barnsley before PC/PR saved ..Alan Sheriff and the much derided Alan Bloore.
problem is this: there arent a number of people floating aorund wanting to be chairman of barnsley with the cash to splash around therefore, most manifestos will read - want to spend SOMEBODYELSE's money, on so and so player, will reduce ticket prices so SOMEBODYELSE will have to stump up the cash barnsley fc can't afford to pay a big bad chairmans wage. where would bfc get 200k per year from? oh, SOMEBODYELSE, of course. and, to be honest, most of us, including me, have no f..king idea how a large business is run and what it takes, how can we then be i the best position to choose, especially when it isn't OUR money. PC, who's funding this club, trusts and has appointed the current chairman, both blokes have been good in business and made cash, surely PC is in teh best position to decide...oh, and has the right. unless, all bfc fans stump up £1000 each, assuming we have 10,000 fans, that would give us 10 mill. 10 mill would keep the club running, at its present levels for no more than 2 years, thats whithout signing new players and without paying a chairman. business doesn't work as a democracy, those who pay the money makes the choices, in our case, the bloke who pays the money, happens to have a proven record of big business, and he has made the choice of GS.
Firstly, I understood our chairman worked for free (easy!!) P Riddy allegedly took a wage. So that's the £200k prob solved. I appreciate funding comes from a variety of places but that Mr Cryne does back the club financially. To what extent I don't know. The system I suggested does work abroard for clubs of all sizes. Clearly those with poer credentials will not be elected. The ownership of a club by it's members does work abroard and is catching on in the UK, mainly at non league level with AFC Wimbledon and Telford. Getting the community behind a club can only help with finance not hinder it.
There are lots of fairly wealthy Barnsley fans that have never had the opportunity to invest in the club they love. to have the same opportunity to put something back, on a smaller scale than Mr Cryne has done. More than a grand but less than 6 million. would want some say in where the money is spent, but would generate enough to significantly improve things. never been asked.
You say PC has the right to choose who he wants as chairman but what is his link officially to BFC,he owns the ground with BMBC but isnt on the board of the club. I suppose the real question is why isnt he ,at least, a board member? Or is there a conflict of interest with his dealings with AFC
Until the books come out we don't know how PC's money to BFC (as in the football club) has been shown and weather or not it has to be repaid. Not saying that it wouldbe wrong for him to get the cash back at all. Thank christ he was there to get shut of sterling and the man who brought sterling in And bailed us out last sesason...again
"Mistrust between the board/chairman and some supporters" I reckon that's just a few posters on here who have got so used to knocking the BFC board over recent troubled years that they aren't giving the current team a fair crack of the whip.
They've inherited a club that was in a total mess. The accounts have just been signed off for the financial year to april '04 and you'll see the magnitude of what they are dealing with. I believe they will be published on the official site at some point soon.
The board have made progress, PC hasn't got a limitless supply of cash to throw at the club so it needs to be put on a sound financial footing - something the Chairman has a lot of experience doing.
These things take time and personally I think SOME people need to be a lot more patient and continue to support the club.
Don't forget that long time Barnsley fans that are running the club now - they want the same as we do.

RE: "Mistrust between the board/chairman and some supporters" While I agree, I sometimes think the chairman doesnt help himself with the way he says some things.
why would there be a conflict of ineterst...there wouldn't, different divisions etc etc. maybe its cos PC runs a business full time, and entrust the running of BFC to GS and the board. Similarly, although he may not have an official connection, i reckon power is based upon the source of cash. sure PC has a very pursuasive argument when its his cash and theres no one else to stump up the cash.
RE: "Mistrust between the board/chairman and some supporters" Puzzled by that post. I'm well aware and appreciate the mess inherited by the present board. There will always be people who will moan whatever. Equally there are those people who raise legitimate concerns. SOmetimes these are dealt with, sometimes they aren't. That's fine and dandy. I'm not criticising the board simply suggesting an alternative way to run a club.
RE: Until the I'm glad he has put money in to the club and hope he continues to do so ,but I think it would be better for the club if everyone understood the terms and on what basis the money is being recieved
It wasn't aimed at you... I was just making the point that I think there's a lot of negativity been thrown in the Boards direction from a small number of posters.

I've no doubts that they do.. we want to play at the highest possible level. We want a well run efficent FRIENDLY club. We want committed players and a decent manager. Things will take time. What I feel needs to remembered that although you or I have not invested significant chunks of our personal fortune into the club we all, regardless of our finances have invested our emotions and aspirations in the club. Think of the second that Clint Marcelle scored against Bradford. That's the feeling we want back. We know that the club owners/directors want the same thing but as other posters have said we need something to reawaken our fire after these last few years in the *****. It might be childish but we need o hear something positive from the club in return for our faith.
I dont think you can have have interests in more than one FA club no matter what division they are in.Control of the club and responsibility for the club are two different things I'm not sure someone should have one without the other no matter how good their intentions are
