Michael chopra is ready to turn his back on Newcastle United and join Cardiff City.

Glenn Roeder is happy for the 22-year-old striker to stay at St James' Park, and has offered him a new 12-month contract when his current deal runs out at the end of this month.

I hear that United are ready to make Chopra a better offer, but I get the impression this is not about money but about the chances of the striker getting regular first-team football.

Burnley have also dangled a 12-month deal in front of Chopra (pictured left), but the lure of a three-year contract has convinced the young striker to head off to Wales.

This will leave United and Cardiff to sort out some sort of compensation, and I understand an offer has already been made from Ninian Park.

But with Chopra having only started seven Premiership games in his career on Tyneside, it will not be a lot.

Chopra has been on the first-team scene at St James' Park since 2002-3, but those seven starts just about sums up how things have turned out for him.

But it was when he came off the bench that Chopra had his greatest moment, with the equaliser against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Easter Monday - and no-one will ever be able to take this away from him.

Shepherd and Ritchie met up this week so they must be around to sort out any deals...

I'm sure they aren't just going to jet off on holiday and wait to see who's left in July!

    Okay then

But you can bet your bottom dollar that he'll have his phone on and will be constant contact with people with the club and players we're after.

Don't worry. I have faith in the club to get some quality players in - Patrick has already hinted that we're after 'box office' players which sounds good to me.

Are you sure he didn't say 'Ticket Office'?

We were in there when a mate knocked a bottle off a table. I reacted quickly, catching the bottle on my foot before flipping up into my hand.

    Word gets around.

Burnley signed Any Gray for £700k, so they'll not be interested.

Cardiff have the money from the sale of Jerome (£3m) and also have signed a new shirt sponsorship worth £1m over two seasons.

With P. Riddy being there, none of this will be used to pay off debts, just re-invested........

    Cardiff are 28m in debt.

they need money for a new stadium which they need to complete quick sticks.

The capacity on ninny park will be massively reduced to somewhere in the region of 10k as they must now comply fully with the taylor report.

Promotion to the prem IMHO will not solve the finanicial probs.

Strange decision if chopra goes to a club with severe off the pitch troubles.
