Wasn't he so bad on loan for us that we sent him back to Bernard Matthews early?

My Leeds mate at work says they are making a real statement with that signing. I had to agree, the statement being that they're ready to waste money this summer. He's a record of 1 in 4 in the championship, so that's 10 goals a season.

'Pacy and direct' was his other quote. Lol.

46 goals in 179 league games, which, like you said, is 1 in 4 and just OK. But it's 46 goals in 104 league starts. 4 goals in 3 FA Cup starts and 5 goals in 4 league cup starts. It's a goal every other game for the matches he's started, which is as good as anyone.

He didn't do much for us and I'd love to laugh at Leeds, but at only 23 he's got some good stats. I don't know whether he's worth £3 million, but I'd be happy with his signing if we were a Championship club (not that we could ever afford £3 million).

Do only starts count in stats? There must be a reason he's on the bench a lot, and that's despite the record you point out when he starts.

hes up there along with Jay rodreguez and Jon Walters.

the so called know it alls in the stands at oakwell shouting at them and berating them for being rubbish even though they were only kids on loan.

Chris Wood probably isnt the best striker in the championship agreed, but hes far fron being useless

You can count whatever you like. Personally I think it's a fairer assessment to just count the games a player has started when assessing his strike rate. If a player comes on in the 85th minute, I don't think it's very fair to count that as a full game. But there are no rules to this, I was just highlighting a different way of interpreting the stats. I'd be very pleased if we signed a player with a 1 in 2 strike rate on the games he's started, particularly if he'd got 46 league goals by the age of 23.

He's still young. Younger players, particularly forward players, have a much higher percentage of sub appearances as they're introduced to the team gradually. Defenders, not so much, as managers are reticent to bring off a defender unless he's injured, but from 60 minutes in just about every game the manager will change his midfield or attack. I guess Wood has been at teams where they've had an established and experienced attack and he's been used as sub a lot. Having said that, he's 11 months younger than Winnall but has started more games than him - 104 to 87 - so it's not like he's been left out in the cold or permanently stuck on the bench.

I've seen relatively little of him since he left us, but I see relatively little of any player as I don't watch much football on the telly these days. To get an idea of what a player is like, I look at their stats. Chris Wood's stats look very good.

So a player we had when he was 18 who didnt quite look ready for the Championship then cant possibly improve?
He had a decent run for Leicester in their promotion season aged 21 but not quite made it in the Prem last season
I really havent been following him that closely but surely the reason he has been on the bench a lot is he was playing for a prem side last season. I dont think 3 million is a stupid price for him

I didn't even mention his time with us, where are you getting that from? I make no comment at all about his games for us, I understood he was just a kid, he took no criticism from me when with us. You're seeing things that aren't in my post.
