What has always stopped me doing this in the past is the lack of evidence that my shiny new scalextric doesn't just end up on ebay and the money in the kids theiving parents wallet. What comfort can you offer cynical old tw@ts like myself that I'm not going to cause more harm than good as either a parent uses the gift as an excuse to go jealous / mad and destroy said gift, or, as above, just sell it and go and get pissed on the proceeds.
Hi M1 Tyke, Thanks for your post. I think it's fair to say that as most of the children who benefit from this appeal are actually in care, there is little or no chance of their parents destroying the present or selling it on E-bay or via any other medium. As for those where the children are still with one or both parents but classed as "at risk", then I really don't know how to answer as it's something that I've never thought about & I'm sure no-one else involved with the appeal has thought about either. All I can say is please don't allow any cynicism you may have stop you from doing something to help a child enjoy Christmas in the way that so many others take for granted. If you want to speak to me personally, I shall be there on the 9th December between 10am & 1pm & I'll happily do my best to set your mind at ease as, I'm sure will the other volunteers there, some of whom work for the agencies involved with the kids. Thanks
