I aint read article yet. My opinion is that he is creating bad publicity if he carries this through. Local football is the grass roots and lifeblood of our game and reaching a local Barnsley final gives players something to look forward to ie. playing on Oakwell. Taking this away, he is simply alienating the Club from the amateur local game. I know Ben says that there was some trouble at one of last season's finals.......load of rubbish, I was there and nothing more than banter. What Ben would have been better doing, is ensuring he had adequate safety and security to cover the Ponte end of the West Stand.......he didn't. In my opinion, the Club failed and this means all local football clubs now pay the price. I am open to correction on this, by the way.
If we are having to spend money on security for these games then I'm glad it's being knocked on the head. Ridiculous.
We have school's finals at Anfield - managed to reach one with my school team back in 2006 - incredible night - changed in the home dressing rooms - managed them from the touch line in front of a few hundred people and we scored our two goals in the kop end - night me and those lads won't forget in a hurry
Usual backwards thinking bfc, how many paying and potential paying customers will this impact on, yet another ironic move for a "community" club, what a joke.
they are stoping it because aparently there were flares and smoke canisters thrown last year and getting security and police involved will take the cost higher than what they will make from the games if thats the truth then im happy for them to stop finals i dont want barnsley fc loosing money because of idiots
Some people seem to love having a dig at the club. Why should bfc foot the security bill or foot the bill when idiots cant behave.
Barnsley FC is (or should be) etched into the community of the Barnsley area, so for me, should funding local cup finals should be a priority. The cost of security is minimal. I was actually at the final in question.......and the accusations and actions from BFC are a joke. I would love to be able to applaud BFC for making good decisions, nothing would please me more......but I'm afraid to say, this is an own goal.
Basically, Mansford is saying that he will not allow local cup finals at Oakwell, due to alleged trobule at a final end of last season.
Seems a shame after years and years of no issues he wants to get on his high horse and cancel them after one game of minor issues.
