or should I say the lack of one, what the **** is happening regards a new multiplex in town, we've got the laziest set of councillors in the country, if there's nowt in it for them they're not bothered, lets vote these clowns out at the next election, having met some of them, you would not believe how thick they are.(
If the old cinema can't make money (I assume that's why it was closed), what chance has a multiplex got?
To be fair the old cinema was'nt very appealing to the movie going public, a new multiplex would create an all new experience, with restraunts, pubs etc, plus employment opportunities, it's a shame we've all got to travel to Wakefield or Sheffield to watch the new releases.
yes the only reason i never went to the odeon was because it was a horrible place. If we had a nice cinema then i would be more than willing to go. save as you say the travel to sheffield
Yes they always have half time at the Paramount, been in many a time when they just stop the film half way through. Perhaps things have changed these days. Last film I saw was Death Wish, (The original)
Cinema / Theatre in Darton!! Anyone remember the old Jig and Tool on Darton Lane? Next to the Drum. It was demolished in c1979. I remember exploring it on my way home from school. Anyone know any history of the old place?
RE: Cinema / Theatre in Darton!! Used to go to the cinema just up Greenside from 4 Lane Ends. Only cinema in Barnsley with double seats on the back row. Used to pay cashier as you went in then she used to come round flashing the torch along the said back row, then a bit later selling ice cream.(Y)
RE: Cinema / Theatre in Darton!! Is that the one that became a bingo hall? Never went in it but remember it vaguely
RE: Cinema / Theatre in Darton!! Yes it's now a carpet warehouse had many happy nights in there in the 60's.ff
That'd be the same councillors... That stopped the proposed multiplex at Manvers because it might affect the cinema in town - less than a month before it was announced it was closing!
RE: Cinema / Theatre in Darton!! I would imagine early 70's as a cinema. I was driving past it one day last year it was the first time i'd been past when they had got the front shutters up so you could see inside, it was the first time i'd seen inside the building for close on 40 years.(nodding2fingers)
No that's the Digital Media Centre is going (whatever one of those is) and do we really need one when it's one of our Councils babies I suspect not./poo
Fair enough.... but why should it be the Council's responsibility to sort out a cinema. If there is enough demand in tarn, then someone will want to build one?
But it IS the Council's fault There ARE people out there wanting to build a cinema in Barnsley but the Council won't let them. The Council - which of course knows best - has decided that it wants a cinema in the new town centre complex. So it won't allow one to go anywhere else. Do they give a sh*t that this won't happen until at least 2010? Course they don't - there aren't any votes in it.
During last school holiday My Grandson and his mate went to the cinema at that complex in Castleford. They were the only two people in the cinema..........
I liked it that they took your order at the start and had a pint waiting for you at half time thats what i call a classy joint</p>
