It's rinse and repeat. Same cliches and same analysis of our weaknesses which appear not to be worked on in training.
Notice how he’s backtracking, he’s gone from saying this team should be aiming for top 6. Now it’s a case of we ‘only have 6/7 top end players & it may take longer than originally planned’.. he’s writing the season off. Get out of the club.
He's had 9 months including a full pre season to sort out the problems and arguably has made them worse. He's either to much of a yes man to tell the DoF what the issues are and what he needs to help him fix them or doesn't know how to fix them. Both Clarke and the DoF seem totally out of their depth Clarke should go back to L2 where he's comfortable (but not taking us with him please) and the DoF should go back to his spreadsheet statics because neither are capable of doing their current roles.
Or in the transfer window, the only players that we moved out were fringe players. I'm torn wether he's a bullshitter or needs time to shape the squad, patience is certainly wearing thin with him.
He’s right tbf. Not excusing him or the board, but the players heads went down after Hudds 1st goal and then the 2nd finished them off. Dropped deep and didn’t look like scoring from there.
A spreadsheet doesn’t tell you how a player is going to react to pressure, it doesn’t tell you if a player has courage determination strength stamina or even has a brain for football, imo a piss poor way to run a football club
Their heads were down when they came out for the second half. What on earth does he say to them during half time?
These players weren't picked off a spreadsheet by data analysis. Which markers were.players like Humphrys, watters, Cosgrove or even Roberts who hadn't played much the seasons before he came hitting on the data analysis spreadsheet? They weren't. The spreadsheet is living in some folks heads rent free.
Not saying he didn’t have a part to play today, but he’s right in everything he’s said there for me. They’re just not mentally tough enough. He’s right. I don’t see a single player on that pitch leading. Not one.
Whether it’s through spreadsheets or whatever process we use, that doesn’t matter to me tbh so long as we recruit the correct players. Unfortunately there’s something we ain’t doing right.
I like Clarke on a personal level - I think he's honest, forthright, and calls a spade a spade. The personal challenges he's had will have given him perspective on life and will be helpful for him coping with the challenges of professional football management. I think there's enough in his record to suggest that he can get a team organised and getting results; the question is whether these players are the ones to do it with him.
That’s down to recruitment though. A player’s character as much as any data is important when recruiting. We’re crying out for a Josh Scowen or Alex Mowatt in midfield. Don’t even know where to start on the centre halves…..
