Re. the debates on here in the past about climate change and how some reckon, after that channel 4 show a while back, that it is not greenhouse gasses but solar activity that is causing climate change, here is an article that seems to debunk that claim.

oh well, maybe cows should stop farting then or something. so long as we don't have to do anything about it.

I suppose I am aren't I. Anyway, heres more on the same story.

Just winds me up that people watched that show and decided the argument was settled, when in fact the argument is heavily leaning in the other direction (towards human activity being the main culprit).

That's because people will pick up on something that suits their purposes, even if there is stacks of evidence to the contrary if they discover just 1 that supports their view then that is enough to prove it.

i think its funny that people dont realise this planet is still thawing out and heating up again from last ice age......planets temperature fluctuates like that you see it told me

Not necessarily the case!

The history of science is filled with the accepted view (backed up by loads of "evidence") being challenged by the maverick scientist who ends up being more right in the end.
On the global warming debate: This last bit of "news" from Lockwood debunking the solar activity theory does absolutely nothing to forward the argument for human activity being the main cause of global warming. He complained of being mis-quoted on the Channel 4 promme and has had to re-establish his mainstream credentials. This is a guy (like many others) who depends on government to fund his research and hence his salary. Government only fund research which investigates the orthodox theory. I have a great deal of difficulty in accepting the cataclismic ideas that are coming out of self-perpetuating research.
As for the facts (as presented in the articles referred to). It is undoubtably accepted that average global temperature has risen by 0.4 degrees in last 30 years but this avoids the point that it has not increased at all since 1997. Truth is that this sort of analysis is in its infancy in scientific terms and nobody can be sure. Weight of evidence or vested interest?
Still think it is sensible to cut down on fossil fuel use though! Generations to come will think it barmy that we waste a resource like oil by burning it.

Shouldn't they be ranked 4th if there are three other countries worse than them

We had climate change in the Middle Ages. We were told in the 70's that we would all freeze to death. As one of the contributors says, it's people jumping on the band wagon to make a personal point.

We should be working on adapting to climate change,

not trying to reverse what is the natural cycle of things.

Man made pollution is what we should be looking to curb, but no one seems to care about heavy metals being pumped into the sea or the contamination of ground water.

**** me, so either we reject the general scientitic consensus in favour of a generally debunked alternative, or we dismiss the science altogether because the scientists are all on a big jolly the whole time, lounging around on chaise longues, having their anorak zips twiddled by high-class hookers while whispering 'global warming' into the receptive ears of politicians.

Anything so long as we don't have to worry or do owt, eh.

Oh Dear - I agree with Bright Red

Doesnt happen often.

One additional fact to bear in mind. - Global warming caused by carbon emissions is a dream for Governments wanting to increase taxes without opposition.

Govenrments (or historically the Church) have taken a dim view of scientists whos views are inconvenient - whether they are right or wrong is somewhat irrelevant.

RE: Oh Dear - I agree with Bright Red

I don't see how using taxation to reduce emissions can work effectively.
Firstly a government needs to budget it's taxation to meet their expenditure, but if you are trying to reduce emissions then what you are doing is trying to discourage people and using taxes to do that means that in effect you are saying they can pay less tax by reducing their emissions, therefore reducing the amount the exchequer claims and thereby meaning they need to reassess where the taxes are obtained from!
It just doesn't make sense! Then again since when did taxation policy have to make sense?!
