The Conservative government, has granted permission for a coal mine to operate in Whitehaven,Cumbria until 2049. Later this year, they host a International Climate change conference.
I'm not making this up, honest.

It's all to do with sovereignty and making our own coke. We don't want any of that foreign coke coming over hear, we want to make our own CO2.

It’s coal for steel making. 85 % will be exported and the arguments used in favour are economic ones. The Tories and Labour came together to vote this through at county council level, so Labour don’t have clean hands in this. The Tory government have decided not to call in the decision, so as you say it’s going through as things stand.
You’d hope the fact that the big climate change conference is being held in Glasgow, MC’d by the blond haired twattt might embarrass them in to sense

It contradicts our own environmental policies, I joke about them taking us back to the past but you wonder if more pits will be opening?

I read that the coking coal will be largely exported to Germany.

This government would literally do anything if they thought it had votes in it for them, and profit in it for their cronies.

The Germans generate a third of their electricity by coal, and incredibly are just in the process of building a new one,

And then you have China. And that's why this needs to be phased out. Bit barmy a government alleging a green recovery and placing so much emphasis on their place at COP and then going against it with such an action. No?

Forlorn hope mate, they are immune to embarrassment. They simply don't give a shiite for what anyone else thinks.

China is build coal fired power stations at an alarming rate and continue to make empty promises on measures to reduce carbon emissions. Their attitude has changed little since 1997 when at the Kyoto protocol summit they stated they "would address climate change issues and carbon emission reduction when Chinese citizens achieve the same living standards as the American citizens".

The greatest lie (in a crowded field) told about the miners strike was that it was a dying industry and unsustainable.

I hadn’t realised there were no jobs in green energy? I must have completely misunderstood how economies work.
