...i know this would cause problems with season ticket holders but there's a much better atmosphere when everyones packed in closer together.

AND then possibly replace the seats in the ponte with terracing - that would be fantastic

All the more reason not to do it

The best view of the pitch from the whole ground is the East Stand Upper!

And we made it all seater to comply with laws imposed by the FA!

    The 80s are over...

...we aren't gonna get another hillsbrough disaster these days so the safety concerns don't really exist any more.

Get some terracing installed, sell the tickets at half the price and drag the fans back in.

It just pains me when the attendance is announced and we get a sarcastic cheer from the away fans who in all honesty have sometimes made for about 40% of the crowd (sometimes more).

I bet against sunderland and derby last year we were almost outnumbered in our stadium

"safety concerns don't really exist any more"

That one definitely needs some explanation.

    Ok then...

what would be the admission charge for the standing area? half price? and how many extra fans do you think it would bring in to compensate for the lack of revenue?

    RE: Ok then...

IMHO if you charge people a tenner to come in and stand and keep it at a tenner, you would gradually see people start to come back.

I still can't get used to handing over £20 to get in there and not get any change - I'm guessing the people who used to come but don't anymore just can't do that.

At every home game there must be at least a 2000 people who didn't come to the last game, and then another 2000 at home who did go to the last game - if we could get all these people to come at the same time we should be sustaining crowds of 17000. With the crowds comes money, with the money comes better players and possibly promotion, which again brings in more fans.

I know it's not that simple but...

Right but what about the loss of income from..

.. fans who migrate from the stands to the terrace. You may end up with a 'stuffed' terrace with say 7-10,000 in and stands rattling with 2-3,000 in.

    RE: North stand ?

Put it this way, when you move into a new house that needs a bit of work, do you make what is there look nice first or do you build an extension and shove a conservatory on the back and leave it at that? I wouldn't, but the guy responsible for Oakwell obviously would!!

    Sorry Scott

... you've lost me. We had a hill there before. We now have a modern stand that will last for decades, and look at the money we'd have lost if we hadn't had that facility last year.

    Explain...

How does closing a stand and making some of the ground terracing increase the attendance? It MIGHT improve the atmosphere, then again it might not. And seeing large parts of the grounds closed looks worse.

If you let them in cheaper then we'll lose money... and I don't think enough people prefer standing to seating anyway.

Is this to do with the fact you're embarrassed when away fans jeer our attendances? I think you'll find that our fans always jeer the attendance at all our away games too, even if they're higher than we get... it's just something that's done when an announcer reads the attendance out at most games.

I suppose it doesn't really matter

i'm just bored of the place, clubs should move around a bit like they do in america or Milton Keynes...
