The club now needs to drag itself into the 21st century. We need a chief executive, not a general manager, that has a remit to change the 'old boys club' mentality and a pr manager that can engage with the fans.
Could you Explain me the difference betwenn a cheif executive and a general manager? What exactly is our general manager doing or not doing correctly? What's this old boys club? I've never seen it.
A Chief Executive would have more responsibility within the club and be in a better position to make decisions that would improve the efficiency of the clubs off field activities. For instance plenty of people on here complain about inefficiencies in the ticket office and in allocations for all ticket matches. A Chief Executive has the authority to make changes and decisions where needed. I suspect at Oakwell this does'nt happen.
Please do explain. In the context of a football club like Barnsley. Not a FTSE 100 company because I'm strugling to see the difference between the 2 roles in this context and am especially interested in how this is the answer to our percieved problems in some quarters.
The job title is not that important CEO - or General manager in a private company doesnt really matter And I suspect that our General Manager has the necessary authority to make changes to details like the ticket office for example. So your complaint is really whether we have the right General Manager
So Our General Manager who runs the club day to day and sits on the board of directors doesn't have any authority?
not to mention increased costs which would inevitably be incurred. I for one am willing to put up with the club in its current guise, not that its all that much of an imposition, if money is saved for the playing staff, coaching staff and academy.
Site Admin / Site Moderator One makes the rules / one delivers the rules. Change rules for strategy and theres your answer.
Only thats not true in so many ways Again in a private company where one person is the major investorit doesnt matter what you call anyone else The ultimate authority for making rules rests with that person. He can then delegate that as he sees fit. Whether the person below is called CEO or General Manager is irrelevant Its different for a public listed company when the CEO is accountable to the shareholders and a General Manager usually reports to the CEO but thats not how Barnsley FC is set up. As Gally points out Don is one of the clubs Directors - Along with PC and Barry Taylor - or are you advocating an extra layer of management A CEO whose sole job is to tell the General Manager what to do
Oh So our GM doesn't get involved in any strategic decisions. Thanks for clearing that up for me. BTW Who does?
