Understand #Barnsley fc set to give Micky Mellon 2 or 3 games to stake a claim to the job. Shades of last season with David Flitcroft.

Shades of last season. No it's not. We at least tried to get a new manager in last season. This is the first chance for the new board to show the fans something and they are going to annoy a lot of fans me included who wasn't fussed about which manager last season and made non of these comments about it.

We've got new employees who will do as their employer tells them to. Much different to a new board

So you're saying Ben Mansford & Maurice Watkins are being employed as Yes men?

Not as such but they aren't independent board members

You're saying they'll agree with whoever Mr Cryne wants without any contribution? I know you don't like Patrick, but I've seen no proof whatsoever that Messrs Mansford & Watkins are unprofessional enough to simply agree to everything Patrick says, whether they agree or not.

If PC is going to keep the club, he is certainly not going to tread water why else would he bring in Maurice and subsequently Ben. I see a good appointment this time around with connections and experience.

Sensible decision if you ask me - evolution not revolution. We all know the current players can perform better than they have been doing - give Mellon a chance to get better performances out of them. If it works great, if not it's biding time to make another appointment later when they've sussed out who they want or who might want it. Ipswich will get fed up with McCarthy soon the we'll be reyt.

They may well have opinion, they may well disagree but at the end of the day he who pays the piper calls the tune.

Don wanted rid of Hill and Flicker at the end if their first season but was "outvoted"

But that's not the same as claiming that they're simply employees doing what their employer tells them to, which is what you said.

Not sure thats a fair way to see whether he has what it takes 2 difficult away games! - still if we dont lose them both its definitely going to be more points than we would have had with Flicker still in charge

I think we need to give him more than 2 games though if we are seriously thinking about him for the job

Great plan to heap failure on failure. New broom. New start is needed and I suspect it will be.

I agree mate; this juncture provides Watkins and Mansford to make THEIR appointment. It needs a fresh start and impetus.

Mellon, by default, will probably get 2 games in Brighton and Burnley......but that should not (and will not) cloud the longer term judgement of our Leaders.

If it does, I will be very surprised and disappointed.

I'm just glad we didn't take this attitude when Viv Anderson left. If MM gets two wins from the next two games then he deserves a go. Just because he was Flickers assistant doesn't mean he has the same football philosophy or tactical awareness.

To be fair, if he has "some" tactical awareness then it will mean he doesn't have the same tactical awareness as Flicker, because Flicker had none.
