I know all goals conceded are bad goals but ffs. It’s like watching under nines for first goal and goalkeepers golden rule is to parry to side not in front .
I think, if proof were needed, we can now be sure that Collins is not a number one keeper. He's still learning the game but we can't afford to concede goals like that. I'm not saying the keeper is 100% to blame for a goal but a bit more nous would have helped him keep both of those out. He's good for a few good shot-stopping games but has proved this season and last how vulnerable he is to the odd clanger. I know Walton could do exactly the same but, on balance, he's the better keeper. Let's hope his hand injury is not too serious (if it actually exists of course).
It can’t have done his confidence much good with the occasional amateur defending in front of him tbh . The parry was a run of the mill everyday match event that would have been drilled into him from a young age , it’s basic goalkeeper training the number one rule . However there wasn’t a defender anywhere near the goal scorer or even an attempt to get near him , he won’t score an easier unchallenged goal than that in his entire career imo. It’s the basics that’s killing us simple things like passing straight to the opposition etc but scoring and getting in front can limit this imo by calming nerves etc . I can’t even attempt to try and explain the first goal , all of our defence run towards the ball leaving numerous opposition players unmarked and in acres of space, it was shambolic ,amateurish , neglectful unprofessional and any other name you want to describe it . It wasn’t as if Boro we’re capable of carving chances out themselves they were almost as bad as us but we gifted them chance after chance which they hadn’t the quality to take other than the gifts . I suppose the heads went up when Frieser went off then straight back down when they saw who was replacing him . That’s not to pull Adeboyejo down but there was proven ability on the bench , someone who had actually scored in this division and when they saw they weren’t gonna be used maybe they thought all hope had gone . Struber was a lot to blame imo with team selection subs etc but that doesn’t excuse players not doing the basics even if they weren’t good enough on the day .
