Gauci should think about a career in dodgeball as i have no idea how he managed to get out of the way of that 1st goal without it hitting him.
Their first goal when Pines went in to tackle looked like he got a elbow in the ribs probably that’s why he went down
There 1st goal one goal kick lose the ball in the air, could connell close the pass down faster? Looks like he ducks. Pines has a mare then the keeper maybe could do better.
that’s how they teach keepers these days to approach one on ones and make that k shape. I do actually think he should have done better to be honest.
I refuse to watch the “highlights” but I would say Pines is obviously the biggest culprit, then Gauci (although the shot was hit pretty hard) and then Russell for lack of competing for the header. We don’t press anymore so nobody would have tried to close that ball down in my opinion.
I'd give it a watch I think the 2nd ball could/should have been closed down faster. Not about pressing just trying to win the 2nd ball and closing down the space instead the lads able to look up and spray a pass under no pressure to put his mate one on one with pines.
I’ve just watched it and probably agree that he could’ve tried to close down a bit quicker. I still think the 3 I’ve mentioned previously were more to blame though. Possibly Earl too as he’s meant to be a left back in a back 4 at that point and he’s nowhere to be seen.
I can't agree isnt connell meant to be the midfielder who "gets stuck in" and breaks up play? it's just poor all round from all of them. And closing space down is basic stuff. In earls defence maybe he struggled with the change to the defence I don't know.
Fair enough. I think with Earl, that’s probably one of the players that Clarke was alluding to in his interview about not adapting. I seem to remember he played left back for a bit away at Stevenage and kept tucking in there too. Some strange decisions from Clarke yesterday that’s for sure.
Yes losing a header and then failing to challenge for the 2nd ball in midfield shouldn't have resulted in one long ball and there man only having pines to beat.
