Had a pint with him earlier. He watched them both train and he was amazed how good they were. He's a big tarn fan and can remember them playing of course. Said they dictated training and looks like one will be a perm before York! Other looks like a gooer aswell.

Colace tweeted something a few days ago saying 'I wish to sign soon' or something like that.

Which says more about our current players than it does them. Although Adam Hammill should be comfortably the best player at the club based on talent. I'm praying he's in the team and signed up before Port Vale, gives me a reason to look forward to the game as well as meeting mates.

Did your mate recognise the other trialist?

He was a tall lad with black hair. I heard he was also ex bfc.

Looking at the thread below maybe it was Rory Fallon.

    That's a different Fallon.

The Fallon we know was in fact the tall black haired player at Oakwell on Friday.

Seems like unless lj likes them they'll be occupying a seat on the bench with Jackson.

I'd think Hammill has an excellent chance, since we're struggling out wide.Colace will have rto show he's better or adding something different to midfield. I like his attitude though. :)

I don't remember people liking his attitude much in 2010 when the rumour was that he'd snubbed our offer of a contract, buggered off to sign for someone else, but the deal fell through so he came back. He then played that season just like he'd failed to win a contract at the club he really wanted to be at. The rumour may not be true, I don't know. What I do now is that his final game for us was at home to Bristol City in April 2011. He was injured in the first half and subbed. As he trudged across the field, barely a soul clapped him off. It was almost complete silence.

I don't rate Hugo Colace at all. He's one of those modern day footballers that I just don't understand - a defensive midfielder who can't tackle. His passing is neat and tidy, but he has no great range, it's the easy ball every time. That's fine, keeping possession is a good thing, but if that's all you ever do in possession (he can't dribble or shoot particularly well) and you're not particularly strong defensively, how does that merit a place in the side? Maybe it does at the moment, we struggle to even do the basics, but it really shouldn't. Looking at Colace's career, it hasn't merited a regular place in any other side apart from ours.

I didn't rate Colace in the season he won the player of the year, but I sort of understand why people did. He added something extra to his game, he got us some goals. If you do that then you probably are worth your place in the side. But he never did that before and he's never done it since. That season was a one off. When the goals dried up I couldn't understand why we continued to select him.

If Colace was looking to sign for someone else back in 2010, that doesn't make him a bad person. Far from it, he was looking to better himself and ambition is a good thing. He didn't owe us anything. We paid him to play football and he fulfilled his role. I don't think he did it particularly well, but neither do I think he shirked his responsibilities. In that final season, after he'd re-signed, I don't believe he put in the same effort as he had done previously. I can't be the only one judging by the reaction in that Bristol City game. Many of those people had voted him their player of the year 12 months previously but they didn't even bother clapping him off in what was almost certainly his final game for Barnsley (or maybe not now).

I'm not Hugo Colace's friend. He may be a lovely man, but that makes no difference to me. My only relationship with him is as a Barnsley fan. I don't care that at the age of 31, and unable to get a game anywhere, he's desperate to play for us. I do care that 5 years ago he played like he wanted to be anywhere else but Oakwell.

Bitter and twisted? Course I am, I'm a football fan. Struggling to understand why more people don't feel the same.

Watched a video of his time with us the other day and to be fair he made some quality passes, I know it's only a video on youtube but to say he has no great range is a bit unfair. To me he was always a box to box midfielder not an out and out defensive midfielder.

Bang on this. Remember the photo of him on the site with Robins when he signed his contract after touting himself around. Amazing how being on Twitter makes people forget things.
