I think that we have today entered what is known in weatherman circles as a "cold snap", as it's -20 outside.

I went on to our balcony (fully glazed) this morning and even there was -10 and my ears started burning.

Still, spare a thought for the poor gits who live in Irkutsk in Siberia - they woke up this morning to find the air temperature a cool and breezy -48 (and also that they couldn't get to work as all the petrol in their Ladas had frozen)

Have a couple of -20 this year

Coldest temp i've experienced was -38 celcius at our cottage in the mountains! Not very nice when you think you have to warm the cottage up when you get there.

Never been below -24, and that was in Siberia. Last couple of winters have been pretty mild.

We tend only to go to the country cottage in summer, for the reasons that you mention!
