Im not his biggets fan but cant see how he could have been at fault for yesterdays goals.

Will you people that are blaming him please explain how he was at fault?

Agreed! let down badly by defence.....

We looked suspect at ever set peice! to say we now have a big/tall back line we didn't win header and weren't pciking up men. In fact because of the disorganisation at the back Colgan even decided he wasn't taking chances and came to claim/puch ball from corners.....

    Kozluk - steady
Naytanga and Reid - didn't work well together yesterday
Sousa - couldn't win a header against matt fryatt who's 5ft 5"? also lost his man far to easily. The weaklink yesterday. Looked better when Werling came on!

personally I think in general he did OK yesterday, but still think he needs to be replaced, thers a lot of talk about commanding the area and thats his big fault, for me the better keepers direct the defence and the defenders know what the keeper is most likely to do and when hes likeley to comefor the ball with Colgan thats anybodys guess. That being said if yesterdays owt to go by the position would be reversed anyway because the keeper also needs to know what his defenders are` likeley to do and where they will be and after yesterdays efforts thats definiteley any bodys fecking guess!!!!!!!!! ( anywhere except near the opposition forwards at any rate)

Just seen the first goal again and no way was it colgans ball to come and get it was a inswinging cross (look at Nzogbia's goal for Newcastle yesterday for the type of ball played) from the left hand side of the pitch

    Should have had the first

Ball came across the face of the goal, swinging in towards the keeper. Should have been his.

Agree he could have done nothing with the others.

I can see Muller coming for corners more than Colgan but as for a shot stopper he is very good. I cant see Muller getting down to stop low shots but we shall see.

    Sorry I disagree

If its in the 6 yd box, the keeper should come for it. How far out was the Coventry player when he headed it?

    RE: Sorry I disagree

The only way Colgan could have got to the ball first would have been if he had started on the 6-yard line.

The forward shouldnt have been able to get where he got so easily.

He did come out and collect a few high balls into the area, particularly first half, as we were commenting whether he was doing this as a reaction to Davey's comments about Muller commanding the area.
Thought the free headers were more the fault of defenders not picking players up

Me too. We simply couldn't handle Kevin Kyle - can't understand why we didn't have two men on him.

    The issue for me

is the lack of confidence we show on crosses and set pieces thrown into the box. Granted, our defenders should mark up and compete, which they didnt on Sat, but they're not helped by the fact that our keeper is constantly glued to his line. Every team in the league will know how to play against us, Coventry did their home work and we conceded 3 identical goals to the ones we were conceding all last season. Colgan is a major part of the problem Im afraid, and Davey has identified that by bringing in a keeper who can command his area. We still need an experienced centre half to replace Reid, cos he's simple not good enough.

Don't think Muller could have done puch about any of the goals Saturday though Steve, even the first. Long straight ball still a massive problem...

    RE: The issue for me

I think we defend too deep, we never try and play them offside but just sit in our 6 yard box waiting for the ball to drop to one of their strikers. Reid and Kozluk both left their men, but with a keeper who's off his line and more alert to danger, maybe he'd have a chance of getting to the 2nd ball or making a save. Colgan had no chance cos he wasnt near enough to play. I'm hoping the new lad can bring some physical presence as well cos we look like a set of wimps.

I hope Ferenczi is given a video of Kevin Kyle and told thats what we want from you!

I was surprised by Kyle , whilst his persistent fouling was annoying , I thought he played quite well and could a run a lot quicker than I imagined. Highlighted when he blew past Nyatanga in the 2nd half.

I know its not rocket science picking up attackers but calling him simple is a bit strong :D

I agree the forward should not have got there, but he was only about 3 foot off the floor when he headed it, and not that far out. A keeper has such an advantage when coming to catch crosses. Coming and demanding the ball in such situations takes pressure off the defence.

Konstapolis [?] for Coventry was a good example of that. How many times did he collect crosses, taking the pressure off?

mainly because that isn't in a text book very often. Sometimes you have to react to a situation rather then envisage that it will turn out exactly as you planned on paper earlier in the week.

Obviously Muller will turn out to be a liability as well..... oh and everyone else we choose to add to a team that lacks confidence and is full of individuals whose heads drop at the sign of their first mistake. We'll sort it out though. They'll just need to carry laminated instructions around with them with flow charts on them.
