Its about time we found out how good Scott Flinders really is, and maybe Colgan was told this, and after getting player of the season isn't prepared to be the experienced back up we're looking for? McPhail left for Cardiff - allegedly 8,500k a week, we can't compete Eddie Johnson chose Bradford - More first team football offered Foster chose Burnley - More established championship side, possibly better money, and less re-location Chopra chose Cardiff - We didn't even make a bid to my knowledge Colgan leaves - Possibly coz he was told he'd be number 2 next season? If all the above is true, its got sweet FA to do with the wages we've offered
"If all the above is true, its got sweet FA to do with the wages we've offered" Errr....your reasoning for McPhail and Foster was the wages they were offered!
Taken out of context So you would have wanted us to match McPhails 8.5k a week? You know the point I was trying to make, that the reason for people signing or not signing, COULD have nothing to do with the wages offered. Can we seriously offer Foster as much as Burnley can?
RE: Taken out of context No I wouldn't have wanted us to match the £8.5k unless we could afford it and it was within our wage structure.....but you said that the players not signing had nothing to do with wages when clearly 2 of them, at least, were based upon your own reasons! I do see the point you were making, Foster could be more likely because Burnley are established in the division, but I think we need to question what sort of contracts are being offered.
RE: Taken out of context Ok then, maybe wages isn't the ONLY reason we are struggling to sign or keep hold of players. To keep McPhail on the alledged money would have been stupid. Foster possibly chose Burnley as it wasn't as far to move, and more chance of having mid table security, maybe outside playoffs come February. Chopra never turned us down as we didn't offer. Eddie Johnson wanted guaranteed first team football. Colgan isn't prepared to play second fiddle after his player of the year performances last season. Wages could still be a factor, but if the reasons above prove to be correct, then what else can the board really do? Think there's been an over the top reaction today, and I'm just trying to offer an alternative reason to "The Board are feckin useless, and the wages we're offering are pathetic"
l.t.c. in respect of what you have summised about Colgan is this something which is based upon inside knowledge?
No, but forgetting one major thing....... Flinders did look set to move this summer to a Premier League club. With the move in the best interests of the lad himself, and also for the club - possibly £250k up front, with the rest on appearances. Now if Colgan does go, then Flinders will have to stay, which is not a problem, but the club will miss out on this money to re-invest into the team, which, by the sounds of it, we may need this extra money. We cannot afford to lose BOTH keepers this summer. For once, our back five looked fairly settled last season, and we're gonna need that more than ever next season.....
Never read anything official about a potential summer move I think its always been the intention for Flinders to be number one next season, just come as a suprise that we got ourselves promotion and Colgan put in some player of the year performances. As I'm sure most people would agree it was like a new signing this season with Colgan
