No one on here can knock Colgan's shot stopping abillity everyone no's that, but a keeper in this standard of league must command his box, it takes so much pressure off defenders knowing that he'll come and claim crosses and sweep up any balls thats put over the defence, now my personal opinion is that Lucas, who by the way every time i saw him for dee-dars impressed me, should be given a chance.
this "shot stopping malarkey" Surely "shot stopping" is every keepers primary task? Too many fans forgive Colgan for his blunders and not coming off his line because basically he does what other keepers do in making saves. Maybe youre right. It could well be that Lucas is a far better all rounder and is worth a run in the team.
Goalkeepers Ive been watching keepers in all leagues top to bottom and international and i generally think every keeper is different. Some like to command their box some stay on their line. Yes Colgan could be better at commanding his area but that could be said for loads of keepers in the Premier League. Some do stay on their line and make great saves like Colgan, while others (usually the 6ft 4 variety) will jump for every cross within 12 yards of their net. Colgan knows hes better at staying on his line. Remember the first season here he was dropping crosses left right and centre and was absolutely hammered for it. Last season he stayed on his line more and was Player of Season. Im not saying he cant improve. He can. But rather than hammering the easy target, how commanding are the centre backs? Not very. If we had a Taggart at centre back we wouldnt be moaning about this. Really we should be looking at the real problems with the team (notably a weak manager). As for Lucas ive seen him a couple of times and he looks an average keeper. Do you trust Daveys judgement on who he has signed? If so by all means get Lucas in but personally id stick with Colgan.
Me too Watson is regarded as one of the best keepers we've had but he has exactly the same faults as colgan

RE: Me too have to disagree, after a few months in the prem watson was fantastic at commanding his area and he was effectively a sweeper, he was too small to be top class though and thus wasn't great with crosses. Colgan nowhere near Watson's class
