Last night he wouldn't warm up with Muller, stood at end of tunnel talking to one of darlo staff, when he finished talking walked to half way line and kicked ball about with other subs. Thrown teddy out of cot, O'hanlon had to warm Muller up, think he'll be on his way now
Re: Colgan - has been an excellent goalkeeper for us despite his shortcomings.. ..Muller is too tall to have any shortcomings!
Re: Colgan - has been an excellent goalkeeper for us despite his shortcomings.. What about Colgans nonofflinecomings?
the club could make a fortune if they weighed in those lead boots of Colgans that kept him fimly on his line
"think he'll be on his way now" ............... ............ 12 months too late if you ask me.............. lived on his 'penalty saves/shot stopper' tag for far too long. He's not good enough, simple as that ........ if he was he'd play for the Republic when Given and Kenny are injured but he can't even manage that ..... and as for throwing the teddy out of the cot, ****** League One standard when at his best, Conference at best when his 'shot stopping' lets him down, as it did quite a lot last season
Well he did play In one of the USA friendlies and looked decent. So yes he does stand in for when Given is injured some of the time. I believe he is as good as Kenny and has only been pushed out of the reckoning due to Steve Stauntons aim of bringing in a more youthful squad. To be 2nd or 3rd choice due to a keeper with the attributes of Shay Given (being the countrys finest keeper) isnt something to be ashamed about. As for playing for Barnsley i dont think he has lived on his penalty save. Last season he was average (like most of the squad) but season before he was the player of the season (or had you forgotten that)? Without him we would probably be still in Division Three! Personally i would be sad to see him leave because with competition Colgan is a fine keeper. I dont know how Davey has handled the keeper situation but do know Nick is a professional and a gentleman and doesnt deserve half the ***** he gets on here. I just hope Heinz is as good as everyone seems to reckon (havent seen him play yet so cant comment) and i also hope if Nick does leave Heinz doesnt get injured.
Agree to differ then ............... ...... but you need to take off the rose tinted spectacles mate. For one thing, he might have played the odd friendly for the Republic but he's never been trusted in a match that matters, even when Given and Kenny are injured. He suddenly then becomes 4th choice behind, is it Henderson or summat similar, and I doubt ANY manager from League 2 to the Premiership would agree that he's as good as Paddy Kenny, so that's just your blinkered opinion. For me, any keeper who stands anchored on his line when a cross comes into the box, 6 to 10 yards out, is a liability. It puts pressure on the defenders to win EVERY header because if a striker gets his head on it from that distance it very often ends up in the net. He does not communicate with the back four, so every time a ball is knocked over the defence into the 18 to 25 yard 'no mans land' area there is mass confusion. His distribution is woeful, kicks it everywhere but to our players and throws it out to the full backs when they are marked. He makes a few good point blank and penalty saves but most of the point blank saves come about because he's stuck on his line in the first place. On top of that he drops too many major clangers (ball through legs or under his body). I disagree with your statement that he is the reason we aren't still in Divison 3, on the contrary, it's a miracle we ever got promoted with him in the nets and an even bigger miracle he didn't help to get us back to Division 3 last season. He might be a nice bloke but he can't be a good team player or good professional if he throws the teddy out of the cot as soon as he gets dropped. That has happened to far better keepers than Mr Colgan. Good luck to him if he goes, I wish even more luck to the fans of that team who will have to suffer his ditherings on the goal line, cos they'll need it ......... and those were the exact same sentiments of the Hibs fans when we signed him from there, so nothing much has changed has it!
Really? Just my opinion mate ................... ......... I know the fans are divided on this issue but as far as I'm concerned too many remember the best bits of Colgan, cos he was with us when we got promoted, and ignore the more frequent obvious weaknesses. The final in Cardiff is a prime example, yes it's easy to focus on the penalty shoot out but what about the howler for their 2nd goal? It's hardly ever mentioned, bet it would have been a different story for all the Colgan lovers if we had lost because of that mistake, 99% would have been slaughtering him, not the 50% that are now
Hey Big Un! Bumped into Stew Wraith on Saturday. He brought some team photos to show me. There are some belters amongst them which include the red and white quarter strip. I cant believe how young and fit we once were! Ive played a lot of football with some good players and good blokes but those days were special both on the pitch and in the pub. Im off to cry now......or join a gym!
I saw him mate ........... ...... he showed me the photos, we were all at least 3 stone lighter in those days! ..... you are right though, we had some great times with that team, and in the pub afterwards!
